Magical Peru #12: Chivay and the La Calera Hot Springs (baños termales)
As we arrive in the small town of Chivay, we head to the local hot springs (baños termales). La Calera thermal pools are located just outside Chivay and are perfect to relax after such a long journey from Arequipa.
When we first arrived in Peru, we spent a couple of weeks studying Spanish in Lima (please watch the vlog Living in Lima) then we headed to the North of Peru and visited Trujillo, Chiclayo and some archaeological sites, such as tombs, piramids and ancient cities. Now we go South: our first stop was in Arequipa, and then we headed to Chivay and its thermal pools (La Calera hot springs) and the Colca Canyon, to do a canyon tour!
Chivay is a town in the Colca valley, capital of the Caylloma province in the Arequipa region, Peru. Located at about 12,000 ft above sea level, it lies upstream of the renowned Colca Canyon. It has a central town square and an active market. The thermal springs La Calera Baños Termales, are located 3 km from town, where a number of heated pools have been constructed. A stone Inca bridge crosses the Colca River ravine, just to the north of the town. The town is a popular staging point for tourists visiting Condor Cross or Cruz Del Condor, where condors can be seen catching thermal uplifts a few kilometres downstream. Most of the Colca Canyon tours depart from Chivay.
Arequipa, founded on the 15th of August, 1540, is the capital and largest city of the province of Arequipa and the seat of the Constitutional Court. Also known as the White City, Arequipa has 845 touthands inhabitants. Arequipa is just below the edge of the Altiplano, at 2380 meters above sea level and surrounded by three impressive volcanoes. It's Peru's second most important city (after Lima), and the second most popular among tourists (after Cuzco). The city is part of the so called Southern Peru Tourist Corridor, together with Nazca, Puno and Cusco. In contrast to these other cities, Arequipa is an example of the Spanish and mestizo culture developed in Peru. There are no Inca artifacts or ruins in the city as the Arequipa was a suporter of Spanish colonization.
On the next video we will depart from Chivay on our micro bus, passing by Yanque town and doing the Colca Canyon tour, in search of the mighty Condor!
Brasileiro no Peru

Isn't it interesting to plunge in a thermal spring at about 12000 feet above sea level? Yep. Warm salty water at high altitude.

Magical Peru #15: From Chivay to Puno by Bus
Magical Peru:
We woke up very early in Chivay to go on a bus trip to Puno, the city which gives access to Lake Titicaca!
Puno is a city in southeastern Peru, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. It is the capital city of the Puno Region and the Puno Province with a population of approximately 100,000. The city was established in 1668 by viceroy Pedro Antonio Fernández de Castro as capital of the province of Paucarcolla with the name San Juan Bautista de Puno. The name was later changed to San Carlos de Puno, in honor of king Charles II of Spain. Puno has several churches dating back from the colonial period; they were built to service the Spanish population and evangelize the natives. Lake Titicaca (Spanish: Lago Titicaca) is a lake in the Andes on the border of Peru and Bolivia. By volume of water, it is the largest lake in South America. It is often called the highest navigable lake in the world, with a surface elevation of 3,812 m (12,507 ft).
Chivay is a town in the Colca valley, capital of the Caylloma province in the Arequipa region, Peru. Located at about 12,000 ft above sea level, it lies upstream of the renowned Colca Canyon. Now, we head country side: Puno, Lake Titicaca, Cusco and so on...
On the next video we will depart from Puno on a boat trip on the Lake Titicaca!

Soaking in Hot Springs in the Andes of Peru
Hot spring - El Tubo, Zorritos, Peru, South America
This hot spring is in the desert 15 km away from Zorritos, a small coastal village near Tumbes in northern Peru. The best way to get there is to take moto-taxi from Zorritos.
Peruvian Coastline Pt2 Chimbote & Mancora (#3)
The continued travel up the coastline of Peru, stopping in at the small fishing town of Chimbote and then taking a night bus to the little beach town of Mancora.
Chimbote seems to be a big fishing town, however not much work is available in fishing due to unsustainable fishing practises. The surrounding areas of the main square are very safe for tourists.
Mancora is a well known relax/party beach town in the north coast of Peru. Mancora has many beach activities to do, a 10 soles ($4) menu consisting of entre/main, a large variety of artisan produce and an amazing sunset.

PERU - COLCA CANYON, AREQUIPA
We took a four day trip to Colca Canyon, the second deepest canyon in the world!! On the second day we did the Cabanaconde to Llahuar lodge hike which took us around 8 hoursssssss. We spent the following day in the natural thermal baths :))

Rijs TV vlog #6 - Colca Canyon hot springs! - Peru & Bolivia 2017 (Shoestring)
The MOST Remote Hot Springs in America!
I love hot springs and I love nature! There's nothing like soaking in a natural hot springs! I have soaked in hot springs in many states, and I think this one may be the most remote and hardest to get to! Hours of driving and then a 40 mile paddle done a remote river!
