The country is famous for tango dance and music. Its big, cosmopolitan capital, Buenos Aires, is centered on the Plaza de Mayo, lined with stately 19th-century buildings including Casa Rosada, the iconic, balconied presidential palace.

La Recoleta Cemetery

Buenos Aires - La Recoleta y La Chacarita Cemeteries
Recoleta Cemetery.
The Recoleta Cemetery is one of the main tourist attractions in the neighborhood. It was designed by the French architect, Prosper Catelin, at the request of President Bernardino Rivadavia, and was dedicated in 1822.
The cemetery is located next to the former monastery of the Recollect Fathers. It is an outstanding display of nineteenth- and twentieth-century funerary art and architecture, with private family crypts of the bourgeoisie and mausolea of the landowning classes. The mortal remains of many figures in Argentine history can be found here: Juan Bautista Alberdi, Manuel Dorrego, Bartolomé Mitre, Juan Manuel de Rosas, Cornelio Saavedra, Guillermo Brown, and Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. Perhaps the most popular among them is the tomb of Eva Perón whose grave is visited daily by large numbers of tourists and admirers of Peronism.
La Chacarita Cemetery
The cemetery owes its existence to a yellow fever epidemic in 1871, when existing cemeteries were strained beyond capacity (the upscale La Recoleta Cemetery refused to allow the burial of victims of the epidemic). Students of the College of San Carlos appropriated 5 hectares (12 acres) in the adjoining Colegiales area for this purpose, but had their facility closed by the city in 1886. The New Chacarita Cemetery began to function in 1887 and was formally designated as such in 1896.
Chacarita Cemetery has designated areas for members of the Argentine artistic community, including Carlos Gardel, writers, prominent composers and actors. The late justicialist leader Juan Perón was buried here until his remains were relocated in 2006 to a mausoleum in his former home in San Vicente.

Walking La Recoleta Cemetery (Buenos Aires)
Cementerio de la Recoleta is a cemetery in Buenos Aires in Argentina. Here are many important people who have played a role in Argentine history.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the first Argentinian president Bernardino Rivadavia commissioned the French architect Prospero Catelin to design a cemetery. The cemetery is located on an old monastery site and around the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar (Dutch: Our Lady of the Pillar, the patron saint of the city), a church built in 1732. The monastic order disappeared and in 1822 it became the first general cemetery in the country.
The place gives the impression of a real city with wide streets and narrow alleys. There are more than 6,000 graves and mausoleums on the 5.5-hectare site, of which dozens are protected as a national monument.
The cemetery includes:
Adolfo Bioy Casares, writer, journalist and translator
Eva Perón
Hipólito Yrigoyen, president of Argentina between 1916 and 1922 and between 1928 and 1930
Juan Manuel de Rosas, politician, military leader and caudillo who led the Argentine Confederation from 1829 to 1852
Luis Federico Leloir, biochemist who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1970
Raúl Alfonsín, politician and president from 1983 to 1989
William Brown, admiral and founder of the Argentine navy

Caminando Cementerio Recoleta, Buenos Aires | Argentina 4k
