Score some local waves and Share the Stoke of Surfing in Guatemala!
In the past couple of years a real surf culture has blossomed in the small town of El Paredon, Guatemala.
On our first trip about three years ago, surf equipment was scarce and most of the boards, even beyond repair, were still going out in the lineup with a young group of dedicated surfers to progress the sport in their hometown.
With our access to surf equipment and ding repair knowledge teamed up with their spirit for surfing we knew we could make a positive influential difference.
At our first contest we had a few used boards donated, and some leashes and wax as prizes.
Now, thanks to the involvement of Kelly Kingstons Share The Stoke Foundation, and the on-site Community Rooted Non-Profit La Choza Chula, last year we were able to bring six brand new Firewire Surfboards down and celebrate with an amazing day of competition surfing. Allowing the local kids to show there skill and shred the waves in front of judges and a stoked crowd. Awards are given, cheers and hoots were abundant and smiles made it from dawn till dusk.
Just a short time period later Guatemala has fully embraced the surfing culture and the sustainable surf tourism economy that invariably sprouts. Allowing the local surf crew great opportunities as surf instructors, ding repair specialists, and even sending two of there own countrymen to compete in the Olympic trials in Japan.
As the last county in Central America to join the ranks as a surfing destination, El Paredon still provides a true local experience, and the pure community surf stoke that makes for an unforgettable experience.
During this years trip through Share The Stoke Foundation, myself and Stephanie Lacerte were able to bring down another four high performance Firewire Surfboards to be used by the local young surfers.
With the help of the new Christian Surfers Guatemala led by Edgar Guillen, the 3rd annual El Paredon Surf Contest was ON!
The El Paredon surfers have reached another level utilizing the new equipment, huge hacks, big airs, and stylish floaters sent the surf fans into massive applause.
The awarded surfers we're glowing, proud, and honored to be Guatemalan Surfers!

Build a School in Guatemala!
surfforlife.org/projects/el-paredon-secondary-school-phase-2
On November 1st, Surf for Life volunteers came to El Paredon, Guatemala to help build a much needed secondary school. El Paredon currently has no secondary school, depriving local children of a proper education.
Working closely with non-profit La Choza Chula, locals and volunteers came together and have nearly completed the building work for one main building of the school. However for the school to be fully completed, more volunteers are needed, to finish the incredible progress made thus far!
Starting on February 14th we will be launching more trips and need more people. So please watch this video and follow the link to come help El Paredon's dream become a reality!
