La Mina Falls, El Yunque National Forest - Puerto Rico
In this series of videos, I go outside of Florida on a different kind of journey as my wife and her sister fulfill the wishes of their mother who had passed away, by bringing her body back home to beautiful Puerto Rico to her final resting place. It had been a very long time since either of the girls had been back to where they came from, so while we were there we retraced their footsteps as kids, visiting places they had been to with their mom, from El Morro in Old San Juan to the rain forest in El Yunque. While there, I filmed what I could of my own experiences, since it was the first time I had ever been to Puerto Rico, and it won't be the last.

El Yunque National Forest, Puerto Rico - hike to La Mina Falls
Our day spent in El Yunque National Forest, February 2013. Included a hike on the Big Tree Trail to La Mina Falls.
La Mina Waterfall in El Yunque National Forest, Puerto Rico Rain Forest
La Mina Waterfall is the most popular waterfall in El Yunque National Forest and possibly the most popular waterfall in Puerto Rico. El Yunque is the only Tropical Rain Forest in the entire US Department of Forestry system. La Mina Waterfall can be accessed by two trails that converge at La Mina Waterfall. Those trails are, Big Tree Trail and La Mina Trail. Big Tree Trail starts from it's own parking area, while La Mina Trail starts from the Palo Colorado Recreation Area. Palo Colorado has quite a bit of parking, but it also serves three other trails, a Visitor Center, and Picnic Area.

El Yunque National Forest, formerly known as the Luquillo National Forest and the Caribbean National Forest, is a forest located in northeastern Puerto Rico. It is the only tropical rain forest in the United States National Forest System. The forest is commonly known as El Yunque, which may be attributed to either a Spanish approximation of the aboriginal Taíno word yu-ke which means white lands, or the word anvil, which is yunque in Spanish. The second-tallest mountain within El Yunque is also named El Yunque. El Yunque National Rainforest is located on the slopes of the Sierra de Luquillo mountains, encompassing 28,000 acres (43.753 mi² or 113.32 km²) of land, making it the largest block of public land in Puerto Rico. El Toro, the highest mountain peak in the forest rises 1,065 metres (3,494 ft) above sea level. Ample rainfall (over 200 inches a year in some areas) creates a jungle-like setting — lush foliage, crags, waterfalls, and rivers are a prevalent sight. The forest has a number of trails from which the jungle-like territory's flora and fauna can be appreciated. El Yunque is also renowned for its unique Taíno petroglyphs.

La Mina Falls | 2017 | El Yunque National Rainforest | Prior to Hurricane Maria | Puerto Rico
In this video we are exploring the beautiful La Mina Falls in El Yunque National Rain Forest in Puerto Rico. This is claimed to be the most popular trail in the EYNF (El Yunque National Forest). I support this claim! There were a ton of people on the paved trailed, with lots of kids and adults a like swimming at the bottom of the falls. The trail begins at km marker 12.2. There are parking lots around the area, although we had to park on the side of the road since all the spaces in the parking lot were taken. The trail is not terribly long (0.7 miles) but is downhill the whole time - and this means climbing back up to the top. There is no entry fee into the park, and the hike is about 1 - 1.5 hours round trip.
This video was recorded to Hurricane Maria

El Yunque - La Mina Falls - Hike - Puerto Rico - 4K VIDEO
Tried recording both the trails to La mina waterfalls. We took the Palo Colarado trail to go to La mina - because it was a down trail. Had to walk for 45 mins, but didnt feel that tired. Walking uphill is the most toughest thing..
On our way back, instead of going back to Palo Colorado (which is a steep UPHILL), we took the Big tree trail .. It is a considerably easy trail (mostly downhill , and 20 % of uphill).. Since we were with infants, 2 of us went back uphill , picked the car, and drove to big tree parking. .Atleast the mom's and kids didnt had to walk uphill..
