St Lucia Pigeon Island beach and Castries Town Center with Oceania Riveira
Castries, Saint Lucia
The ship was docked at La Place Carenage, right in the middle of the town center.
Taxi to Pigeon Island Beach, located 14 km (9 miles) north of La Place Carenage. This beach is very quiet, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing beach day. Snorkeling is possible but there aren’t many colorful fish to see. Renting sunbeds is possible.
Taxi back to Castries.
Stroll in the town center of Castries. Visit to the Central Market for souvenirs, spices and tropical fruits and vegetables. The town itself wasn’t a highlight with the cracked pavements and dusty buildings but there are a few builidings worth a visit. The cathedral of the Immaculate Conceptionis one of the oldest on the island and considered the largest in the Caribbean. The Central Library is a beautiful historic building and a landmark in the political history of the city.

St. Lucia Mysticman Tour Dec2014
We visited St. Lucia aboard NCL Gem in December 2014. While in St. Lucia, we went on the Mysticman Eco Tour.
The description from their website follows...
The Eco Adventure focuses on three main areas; Whale and Dolphin Watching , Snorkeling and site-seeing along the island west coast. The tour departs from the ferry dock at Pointe Seraphine and La Place Carenage and sails south towards Soufriere and the Piton mountains with a chance to encounter wild dolphins and whales along the way. The captain and guide will be happy to share their knowledge of the different species spotted during the cruise. With the Majestic Piton Mountains in sight, the sails roll in and it’s time to step into the crystal clear waters of the Soufriere Marine Reserve. Snorkel over a live tropical reef viewing sponges, sea fans, and a wide variety of reef fish with our snorkel guides close by to offer tips and information. On the way back, cruise past the fishing villages of Canaries and Anse La Raye and circle historic Marigot Bay. - See more at:

Castries - Saint Lucia
Castries is the capital of the Caribbean island Saint Lucia. It is located on the west coast and is an important tourist destination, partly thanks to the cruise ship port at Pointe Seraphine.
George F.L. Charles Airport connects St. Lucia via frequent flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe. The harbour is also served by high-speed catamarans to Guadeloupe, Martinique and Dominica, making Castries an ideal base for island hopping.
Castries is worth a stop, with its best feature being the soaring Morne Fortune (2795ft), which serves as the town's scenic backdrop. Most of the city’s historic buildings were destroyed by major fires between 1785 and 1948, but it still makes for an interesting stroll. The markets are mostly given over to selling tat to cruise-ship passengers but you can find interest back in the recesses.
Castries was founded by the French in 1650 as Carénage (meaning safe anchorage) when St. Lucia was purchased by Jacques Dyel du Parquet, the governor of Martinique. It was renamed in 1756 after Charles Eugène Gabriel de La Croix, marquis de Castries, commander of a French expeditionary force to Corsica that year. The earlier settlement across the harbour at Vigie, started in 1651, was abandoned after a devastating hurricane in 1780. From 1803 to 1844, the British made the town a major naval port and built fortifications on Morne Fortune, the mountain that overlooks this important harbour. By 1844, Castries had a population of 4,000. By the end of the century it had become a major coaling station, because it was the only port in the Caribbean capable of accommodating the Royal Navy.
During World War II, a German U-boat sailed into Castries harbor and sank two allied ships in 1942, including the Canadian ocean liner RMS Lady Nelson, which was subsequently refloated in the harbour and taken to Canada to be converted to a hospital ship.

The View from the Waterfront in Castries Saint Lucia
When visitors arrive in Saint Lucia and their cruise ships berth near Pointe Seraphine, La Place Carenage, or Auberge Seraphine, they disembark from those sailing vessels to behold a small strip of island beauty. Just thought I'd act all tourist-like and do some filming. Enjoy!
Vieux Fort St Lucia
Vieux Fort St Lucia - Take a helicopter tour of the city and the entire island, discovering hidden coves, skimming the Caribbean Sea, flying over the Pitons before
you return to the Vieux Fort airport.
If you want to learn about environmental concerns, head to the excellent visitor center at La Place Carenage called Our Planet which is due north of View Fort.
There you will find life-size holograms, wind and snow machines, immersion tunnels and other interactive exhibits that will keep you engaged and entertained for a few hours.
