Geothermal Activity at Kuirau Park, Rotorua
Kuirau Park, in Rotorua, is New Zealand’s only geothermal public park. It features gardens, a crater lake, boiling mud pools, hot springs, free thermal foot baths, bbqs and picnic tables, a children's playground and a free Wedding Venue. Walking tracks lead to numerous areas of vigorous geothermal activity. Kuirau Park is situated just off Pukuatua and Ranolf streets and admission is free.
In the early 1800s, the small lake in the centre of the park was much cooler and was known as Taokahu. Legend tells us that a beautiful young woman named Kuiarau was bathing in the waters when a taniwha (a Māori word for a sort of legendary monster) dragged her to his lair below the lake. The gods were angered and made the lake boil so that the Taniwha would be killed. From that time on, the bubbling lake and the steaming land around it have been known by the name of the lost woman, although the spelling has changed a little from Kuiarau to 'Kuirau.'

This footage was from April 2017, took me nearly a year to actually get around to putting the video together and uploading it. I thought trolls and taniwha were kind of similar, so yeh....

Travelling Vlog: Heading south and digging holes at Hot Water Beach, New Zealand
In this travelling vlog it's a week later and after spending a bit more time at the Bay of Islands before we leave again, this time heading south on our first leg towards Queenstown on the south island. Our first stop along the way it to the Coromandel pennisula to the east of Auckland. Here we find Hot Water Beach, a natural spa, and a great hike at Cathedral Cove.
