La Tour César est un donjon du XIIe siècle, situé à Provins (Seine-et-Marne, France) au sommet de la colline où s'est installée la ville haute.
C'est le seul donjon octogonal à base carrée connu1. La tour servit également de prison. Durant la Guerre de Cent Ans, elle fut occupée par les Anglais qui l'ont entourée d'une muraille.
La tour César fait l’objet d’un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis 1846.
Une première tour, existant en 1137, est nommée dans la charte fixant les limites des foires de Champagne.
La tour actuelle fut bâtie sur un éperon rocheux qui se trouve sur la Ville-Haute, appelée autrefois, Tour du Roi, Grosse Tour, Tour aux prisonniers, elle a probablement été construite sous le règne de Henri le Libéral3, après 1150 selon André Châtelain4. Une légende veut que l'origine de Provins se trouve à l'époque romaine. Suivant cette tradition, la grosse tour de Provins aurait été bâtie par Jules César. Toutefois aucune source ne prouve que César ne soit jamais venu À Provins. ce nom est plutôt à rapprocher d'un symbole de puissance. À l'origine, la tour n'était pas couverte et se terminait par des créneaux. Le toit actuel et la charpente datent des XVIe et XVIIe siècles

Kastel jg bangunan yg besar,tinggi dan harus kokoh.
Di kastel yg penuh dgn rindangnya pepohonan ,biasanya tempat raja raja berlibur dan refresing utk menikmati indah nya bunga bunga, pepohona dan udara yg sejuk.
Raja jg suka berburu bersama staf stafnya.
Beda dgn Benteng, benteng adalah tempat khusus penjagaan dari serangan musuh, di bentrng tdk ada tempat tinggal seperti kastel ..
Jadi sekarang kita sdh mengerti apa itu Istana, Kastel dan benteng ..

At the top of a hill of Provins, France sits the medieval site of Caesar's Tower.
The tower was constructed during the rule of Henry the Liberal in the 12th century and has served many purposes since that time.
It has been used as a fortress, jail, watchtower and attraction due to its fantastic location overlooking the Brie Plateau.
The tall stone and brick wall at the base of the tower was made in 1432 for defensive purposes.
The newest additions to the tower are a roof and church bells from a Collegiate Church, both added in the 17th century.
Today, visitors can walk through the dungeons and governor's room, and even look out over the city from the towers peak.

Provins is well known for its medieval fortifications, such as the Tour César (the Caesar Tower) and well-preserved city walls.
The Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church is located here. The Empress Galla Placidia is said to have presented Ancona with the relics of Judas Cyriacus. However, the saint's head was situated at Provins, brought from Jerusalem by Henry I of Champagne, who built a church in this town to display it. It is still at the Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church, although construction work during the 12th century was never completed due to financial difficulties during the reign of Philippe le Bel. A dome was added in the 17th century, and the old families of Provins who lived in the upper town were called Children of the Dome.
Two sets of caves underlie parts of the town. The first type were likely used to store food in the Middle Ages. The second, deeper, type contains Bronze and Iron Age graffiti. (from wikipedia)

La Tour César lors des 33e Médiévales de Provins
Voici une courte vidéo de la Tour César à Provins que j'ai réalisé pendant la Fête Médiévale pour à la base en faire un gif. J'ai décidé de modifier le son de la vidéo pour pas qu'on entende les touristes et la publier en vidéo.
La prise de cette vidéo a été encouragé par la présence temporaire des étendards qui donnaient un côté vivant à l'édifice.
Les premières notes de la musique qu'on entend sont celles de Douce Dame Jolie de Guillaume de Machaut (~1300 - 1377).

In the late medieval era, the Counts of Champagne would host trade fairs several times each year in the towns of the region. These trade fairs were an important link between northern and southern Europe, as both goods and ideas travelled back and forth. Provins was only one of the many towns that hosted fairs, but has survived the most intact and is thus inscribed on the World Heritage list - enjoy!

Provins - Cité médiévale - France
La cité médiévale de Provins est classée depuis 2001 par l’UNESCO.
Elle se situe dans le département de Seine et Marne à environs 75 kilomètres à l'Est de Paris.
Vous découvrirez ses remparts, ses ruelles typiques.
Mais aussi des monuments comme la tour César, l’église Saint Quiriace, la Grange aux Dimes et de multiples souterrains médiévaux.
Vous pouvez également assister à un spectacle de chevalier et un spectacle d'aigle volants au dessus de vos têtes.
Des artisans également, surtout pendant la fête médiévale.
Et bien sur de quoi vous restaurez et vous rafraîchir.

Provins, France - Medieval Walled Town
Much can be said for this historic & well-preserved walled old town. There were very few cars visible, so it was more than easy to get transported to another place & time. Simply an amazing place to be fully immersed in history & what it must have felt like to be there during the 13th century. The hilltop César tower offered some spectacular views of the town below, as well as the distant landscape.

As we drove back to Paris, around 9:30 p.m., we were treated to some spectacular sunsets, all the way until we reached the city limits.
