Damian and I sky sail our way up to La Tournette at 2351m. I had only a few hours on my novice paragliding licence at this stage and Damian was taking me on a bit of a tour. What a great week at Annecy. No fancy editing, just the full vid. Minor wingtip collapse at 7:34

The Tournette (2,351 m) is a mountain in the Bornes Massif in Haute-Savoie, France. It is the highest of the mountains surrounding Lake Annecy and has a prominence of 1,514m, qualifying it as an Ultra. It is possible to drive most of the way up, parking at Chalet De L'Aulp.
From here the summit can be reached via a well marked path in around 3 hours. The final third of the climb requires some scrambling, but there are chains and ladders in all the difficult sections. La Tournette is a superb spot to contemplate all the summits above Lake Annecy as well as the Aravis Range and the Mont Blanc Massif, sometimes hidden by the clouds when it’s hot.
This ramble is somewhat technical in its final part, as many passages are equipped with cables and chains and, in places, the rock humid and therefore very slippery. I then advise the use of a cord for children. There are many ibexes in the massif that you can easily approach and photograph. Be careful however as you reach the summit: these same ibexes can trigger rockfalls.

Biking, Running, and Climbing La Tournette above Annecy, France
Tahoe Mountain Sports Ambassador, Chris Cloyd decided to make the most of his time in Annecy, France for the Salomon Outdoor Summit and get up La Tournette - the highest peak around Lake Annecy. Boasting views of the lake and the valley below, and Mont Blanc on the other side, this peak would be worth climbing. Although following tracks in the snow led him off route and the time spent chasing them kept him from the summit, Chris enjoyed a coffee on a nearby peak and had a great day biking, running, climbing, and adventuring.

Annecy - 2 tours lac - 2 la tournette
I had a lazy day, charged by the flight of the previous day. Coffee, badminton then tour de lake by bike. The morning was cloudy with low base but that was perfect for the SIVs so there was plenty to watch.
I got to take off late, with the shuttle of 15:30 that left almost at 4pm... I set up quickly and efficiently (I thought).
Then I had a difficult start... I had a couple of attempts. It eventually worked to my relief. I climbed like a champagne cork with a thermal I picked to the right side of the take off all the way to 2200+ meters. I was higher than everyone else and finally in cooler air to compensate for the jacket and gloves...
I have discovered then, when I wanted to accelerate, the reason of my difficult start: the speed on the right side was routed and trapped between the risers and was keeping the glider accelerated on that side... Brrr... It could have been way more serious!
I fixed and had some fun training: La Tournette (uh... that place always gives me altitude sickness once I fly over the crest...), petit tour, and then back, la Tournette again, cross the lake again and back to take off...
On the way back the second time, over the lake, with about 1500m to spare, I was on full speed, relaxed and (most likely) overconfident. Went into a sudden strong turbulence (probably entering valley wind or related to wind shear) and the whole glider collapsed... I got a taste of a small cascade, from full stalls to frontals, a couple of times until I got it flying again. It was a wake up moment.
I have extended my flight 1 hour more to get back on touch with the glider :).

Beautiful weather but weak thermal conditions, so everything took little longer. Climbing La Tournette took little more than 35 Minutes. A beautiful flight of about 2:40h.
