Israel Palestine Conflict & Australia's Role
Jackson Bates addresses Minister for Foreign Affairs, Stephen Smith, calling for Australia to play a larger role in the Israel Palestine conflict. Bates explains the history behind this conflict and states that it is our responsibility to defend Palestinians from Israel's ongoing attacks, saying Australia prides itself on sticking up for the little guy, Palestine is this little guy. Bates' speech was part of the 2010 Victorian Youth Parliament in the chambers of Parliament House, Spring Street Melbourne.
Youth Parliamentarians entered the chambers in the first week of July where they debated 16 pieces of proposed legislation written by the youth. Some of the issues raised include:
• Removal of Glass from Entertainment Venues • Lowering the Blood Alcohol Content for drivers to 0.02 • Opt-Out System for Organ Donation • Greater Education of Homosexuality in Schools • Full Time Psychologists in all Schools • INTERNET CENSORSHIP & • BORDER SECURITY.
Youth Parliament involves the Members of Parliament handing over the reins (and their desks) to 96 young Victorians aged 16-25 who then debate 16 pieces of proposed legislation that they have spent the 6 months writing.
Delivered by YMCA Victoria in conjunction with the Office for Youth, the program includes three days of debating in the Parliamentary Chambers in Spring St, Melbourne, under the eye of the Members of Parliament, media and the public alike.
Bills passed by the Youth Parliament and given the assent of the Youth Governor are then passed onto Premier John Brumby for consideration. Over 20 Youth Parliament Bills have gone onto become Victorian legislation, including 'Drug Testing for Drivers', 'Over the Counter Availability of the Morning After Pill' and 'Amendments to Strengthen Gun Laws'.

Our first bream comp for the season and we get there late.
When i saw our own team mate peddling away in his Hobie Kayak, i couldn't help having a little sledge at him.
All just a bit of fun in a very serious day.
Unfortunately i was switched on finding the fish but just wasn't sharp enough to land those big ones that count.
James Rogan represented Team Windsor bait and tackle in the Hobbies and Vince and myself were in the boating division as team Windsor bait and tackle.
We see where we made mistakes and next comp i'm sure we will be better prepared. Awesome fun and extreme highs and lows.
