PREVIOUSLY UNHEARD NEW SHOW
LiveNirvana.com is pleased to present a recording of NIRVANA's first concert in the UK (and Europe) which took place on October 23rd 1989 at Riverside, Newcastle upon Tyne. The show was the first on their Heavier Than Heaven tour of Europe supporting their debut album 'Bleach'.
The survival of documentation of NIRVANA's first concert outside North America is remarkable: a cassette dub of a presumed-lost master tape was found with candle wax melted onto its case, originating from the squat in which it was rescued from. More than 25 years after the event, an Italian Nirvana fan and concert enthusiast was scouring the internet for clues as to this recording's possible existence and in 2015 stumbled across a cryptic reference to the aforementioned tape, in a comment on Facebook. A fellow Nirvana fan in Brazil followed up the lead and the owner kindly allowed LiveNirvana.com to professionally digitize the cassette. Today we can now share it with the world.
The band arrived in UK on 21 October 1989 to play a 35-date European tour with Sub Pop label-mates TAD. The Riverside in Newcastle upon Tyne was the first stop on the adventure. The bands joined Mudhoney at the tour's climax at the London Astoria, in a reprise of the Lame Fest held in Seattle earlier in the year.
Audience recordings of all UK shows of the 1989 tour are now circulating, which is a testament to the tenacity and hard work of the collectors who have devoted countless hours over decades to tracking them down. This leaves a concert on 29 October 1990 at The Waterfront, Norwich being the only aurally undocumented UK NIRVANA show, alongside incomplete recordings for 01 December 1991 at The Southern Bar, Edinburgh (two and a half songs of which finally surfaced earlier this month) and 03 December 1991 at Rock City, Nottingham. It is further believed that certain UK concerts were videoed, for example Bristol 1991 and Bradford 1991, for which complete footage is not available at the moment.

Victorian Child Criminals – 16 Pitiable Portrait Pictures of Very Young Prisoners in Newcastle from 1871-73:
Needy life was the main cause to make these children stealing something. Maybe they needed some little things to make their lives more comfortable. These children weren't real criminals, they were just poor kids.
Here below is a portrait photo collection of child prisoners in Newcastle from 1871-73. They were all under 18.
1. Ellen Woodman: 11. Ellen was ordered to do 7 days hard labour after being convicted of stealing iron.
2. Jane Farrell: 12. Jane stole 2 boots and was sentenced to do 10 hard days labour.
3. Henry Leonard Stephenson. 12. Henry was convicted of breaking in to houses and was sentenced to 2 months in prison in 1873.
4. Rosanna Watson: 13. Rosanna was sentenced to 7 days hard labour after being caught stealing iron.
5. Mary Hinnigan: 13. Mary was caught stealing iron and was sentenced to do 7 days hard labour.
6. James Scullion: 13. James Scullion was sentenced to 14 days hard labour at Newcastle City Gaol for stealing clothes. After this he was sent to Market Weighton Reformatory School for 3 years.
7. Michael Clement Fisher: 13. Michael was an accomplice of Henry Leonard Stephenson, charged with breaking in to houses and sentenced to 2 months in prison.
8. Stephen Monaghan: 14. Stephen Monaghan was convicted of stealing money on 25 July 1873 and was sentenced to 10 days hard labour and 3 years in Market Weighton Reformatory.
9. Henry Miller: 14. Henry was charged with the theft of clothing and sentenced to 14 days hard labour.
10. Mary Catherine Docherty: 14. Mary was sentenced to 7 days hard labour after being convicted of stealing iron along with her accomplices: Mary Hinnigan, Ellen Woodman and Rosanna Watson.
11. John Reed: 15. John was sentenced to do 14 days hard labour and 5 years reformation for stealing money in 1873.
12. Edward Fenn: 15. Edward was convicted of stealing clothes on 31 March 1873 and served 1 month with hard labour.
13. Robert Charlton: 16. Robert Charlton was a labourer from Newcastle and was imprisoned for 4 months for stealing 2 pairs of boots.
14. John Duffy: 16. John were found guilty of assault and theft. He was imprisoned for 6 months.
15. James Donneley: 16. Also known as James Darley, at the age of just 16, this young man had been in and out of prison, but on this occasion he was sentenced for 2 months for stealing some shirts.
16. George Lamb: 17. Accomplice of John Duffy, George Lamb was sentenced to 4 months in prison after stealing money.

Shocking footage shows the moment that Darren Appleby (bottom right) squirted the substance at the victim (centre) after three attackers used a silver Renault Megane to stop a man Appleby was in dispute with, in Newcastle. The 23-year-old said he would 'get the tools' before producing a bottle with warning labels on it, which had a man-made hole at the top. He repeatedly squirted it at the victim before getting it in the motorcyclist's eye and down his neck and chest.

Bronze is an album recorded live at the Star and Shadow cinema in Newcastle upon Tyne, England on November 2015 and released on October 6th, 2016 on the alt.vinyl label. The second album from Hen Ogledd, Bronze features a new collaborator and permanent member of the group, Dawn Bothwell. Compared with 2018's more poppier offering Mogic, Bronze exudes an odd mixture of noise, music concrete, folk, and electronic influences to very interesting effect. It establishes a clash between the magic of the old world and ancient traditional pieces/instrumentation colliding with modern electronic and contemporary musical avenues.
Limited to only 250 copies, Bronze is relatively rare and has been sold out. If you are seeking out a copy, I would recommend either awaiting a reissue or checking the discogs page (which was recommended by correspondence from emailing Mr. Dawson directly regarding his album Motherland):
