Lake of Mont Cenis, France
Lake Mont Cenis is situated at the pass that connects Lanslebourg-Mont-Cenis in France in the northwest with Susa in Italy in the southeast.
We missed this place in 2013 while going to Turin.
We were not going to miss this time. Must visit location for landscape photographers and backpackers.
I have never witnessed a sunrise this dramatic, hues of green, so much freshness and the mountain glows with green hues with the first orange light coming from the sun.
Best backpacking roadtrip till date.
You will find many RVs and camping sites near the lake.
A night worth spending in the summers.

About Lac du Mont Cenis from Lanslebourg:
This is a magical ride to the beautiful azure-colored lake 'Lac du Mont Cenis'. You will start in the charming French town Lanslebourg. From here you will climb up through beautiful forest until you 'conquer' Col du Mont Cenis. Normally the pass would be the end of the ride, but on this route, the fun is just beginning and it is time to cash in on all that hard work up to the pass. The pass is a gateway to a sunny alpine wonderland with marmots everywhere and amazing scenery. The high alpine lake takes your breath away with sun glitter and azure-colored water. The route takes you along the lake and down to the foot of the dam where the ride ends. This is a very varied route with climbs, descents, flats and very nice scenery.

Adding music to the ride:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is awesome. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we do not add music to our rides. We simply do not want to spoil your ride with music you do not like. But it is quite simple to add it yourself. Open an extra browser tab. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, YouTube, etc…) and pick the music you like and enjoy the ride...

About Col du Mont-Cenis via Lac du Mont-Cenis (South Climb):
This ride takes you up to a magical 'heaven lake' in the heart of the French Alps and on to Col du Mont-Cenis. You start your ride on a sunny day in the Italian region Piedmont. From the small hamlet Giaglione you start working your way up the mountain. There is no warm-up on this ride, so be prepared to a steady eight percent slope right from the beginning. The first segment of the route is a typical mountain road with occasional views of the big mountains. You ride for about 13 kilometers / 8 miles before you get to the border to France. As you ascent, the scenery goes from good to amazing. After the border crossing, you ride along a few water channels filled with fresh clear mountain water from the dam. In front of you have a beautiful view of the hairpins you are about to ascent. These hairpins are a threat and a true pleasure to ride. The hairpins take you up to the foot of the dam. From here you work yourself up even higher to where you can enjoy stunning views of the dam and the gorgeous 'heaven lake' Lac du Mont-Cenis. The remainder of the route is a full-on cycling fest with amazing views of the lake and the mountains. The road ascents and descents along the lake until you do the last ascent up to Col du Mont-Cenis. Col du Mont-Cenis has been a part of Tour de France and Giro d'Italia several times.
