SUMMARY
=======
The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site (Lieu historique national de la Commerce-de-la-Fourrure-à-Lachine) is a historic building located in the borough of Lachine in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at the western end of the Lachine Canal. It is a National Historic Site of Canada.Beginning in the 17th century, voyageurs would launch their canoes from this location to transport trade goods thousands of miles into the interior of North America lands. At that time the Lachine Rapids prevented large ships from going any further west along the Saint Lawrence River.
A stone warehouse was erected in 1803 to store the furs gathered as a result of fur trade. It is now a Parks Canada museum dedicated to the history of this strategic location as a departure and arrival point for fur trading expeditions. The site is separate from Lachine Canal National Historic Site, with which it is inextricably connected.
Montreal was the start of nearly all westward canoe routes. See Canadian canoe routes (early). Here furs were transferred from canoe to ship and trade goods from ship to canoe. A natural transfer point was the west end of Montreal Island since goods could be carted over a nine-mile road around the Lachine Rapids. Canoes usually left in May and returned in August. The Northwest Company built a stone warehouse here in 1803. It was used until 1859 when it was sold to the Sisters of Sainte Anne who used it as an employee residence. The Lachine Canal was built around the rapids in 1825. Sir George Simpson (administrator) had a mansion across the canal from the warehouse which was torn down in 1880. Parks Canada acquired the warehouse in 1977 and in 1985 opened a museum.

Montreal 1850-1896: The Industrial City
Paul-André Linteau, Université du Québec à Montréal
Around 1850, Montreal has a little over 50 000 people. In a mere half-century its population increases six times, surpassing the 300 000 marks. Growth in manufacturing industries is the main cause. Starting in the mid-19th century, factories spring up all over the city, and especially along the Lachine Canal. Their products are sold on the Canadian market, which is growing by leaps and bounds. Industrialization leads to growth in transportation, trade and the service industries.

Fur Trade Video
This video will help you answer the following questions:
Why were European nations competing with each other here in North and South America? List the countries involved. Why was the fur trade, a source of conflict and tension between European nations and Indigenous nations? What conflict and tension was there between the British and the French? What conflict and tension was there between the British and American colonists? What conflict was there between the Dakota and the Ojibwe? Why did Europeans want furs? Especially beaver pelts? Why did Indigenous people (Dakota, Ojibwe and others) want manufactured goods like metal pots/pans, glass beads, glass containers, firearms, steel tools? What happened near the end of the fur trade that led to the United States buying a lot of the land of the Dakota and Ojibwe? How do we relate to the fur trade today? List a few different examples of how it connects to us?

Toronto and Montreal or Tronno and The City of Saints
The two largest cities in Canada. Just about 547 kilometers, or 340 miles, apart from each other. While the two cities are dynamic, cosmopolitan, global cities with amazing attractions, both are quite different.
Let’s start with the language. French is the primary language of Montreal, while English is the primary language of Toronto. But wait Mr. Beat. Aren’t both English and French official languages in Canada? Well, yeah, but Montreal is in Quebec (I know, I know also pronounced KUH- bek or KEH-bek), which is the only province where the majority of residents speak French. But have no fear English-speaking peoples. More than 59% of Montreal residents can speak both English and French. Less than 1% of folks who live in Toronto mostly speak French, although most Toronto residents know at least some French, or at least they were supposed to learn it in school. Pay attention in school, kids.
Why the language difference? Well let’s get into some history.
Montreal is 151 years older than Toronto. Woah dude. Montreal began as a fort called Ville-Marie. French settlers founded Ville-Marie on May 17, 1642 to help expand its colonial empire, New France. In those early years, Ville-Marie became a major center for the fur trade and made lots of money for France until France lost it in 1760 to the British army in the Seven Years’ War. After the British moved in, THEY made lots of money in the fur trade.
Meanwhile, the British established the Province of Upper Canada. Its first Lieutenant-Governor, a dude named John Graves Simcoe, established what would become Toronto on August 27, 1793. He named it York, to kiss King George’s butt, since the Duke of York was King George’s son. It was meant to be the temporary capital of Upper Canada, but folks liked it so much it ended up becoming the permanent capital. During the War of 1812, American troops attacked the fort which protected York, called Fort York of course.
Voyageurs and Canoe Routes: Geographic Perspective
The voyageurs were a big part of the fur trade in North America. However, there is also an important geographic connection to consider.

Speech:------ Great moments are born with great opportunities.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense,
Let me tell you something you already know, the world aint all sunshine and rainbows, it's a very mean and nasty place, and i dont care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if u let it.
Life is scary, get used to it, there are no magical fixes..it's all up to you.
Life is tough..that's a given, when you stand up you are gonna be shoved back down, when your down you gonna be stepped on.
Pain is temporary..it may last for a minute, hour, or day or even a year..but it will subside. If i quit, however, it may lasts forever
Some guys run and some guys stay...in any fight is the guy who is willing to die who is going to win that inch...
When you want to succed as bad as you gonna breath then you'll be successful, that's how willing is done. And when you get to the point where all you wanna do is being successful, as bad as you wanna breath, then you'll be successful, because if you go to sleep you might miss the opportunity to be successful.
It is our light no our darkness that most frightens us, it is not in just some of us it is in everyone of us
But it aint about how hard you hit it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward...........
We can stay here.... or we can fight our way back......now, what are we gonna do? Screw all, this is your time, now go out there and take it !
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure
Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Now if you know what you're worth, Go out and Get What Your Worth, But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him or her or anybody....THIS IS WHERE WE FIGHT!
YOU ARE BETTER THAN THAT !
