Bury St Edmunds and Beyond - Enjoy The Great Outdoors
Few towns in the UK can surpass the natural beauty of the parks and stunning gardens of Bury St Edmunds and surrounding area.
The award-winning Abbey Gardens is a very special place to visit and a peaceful haven set among the ruins of the historic medieval abbey.
Set in 14-acres of parkland in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, the gardens are internationally renowned for colourful and attractive displays and visitors come from all over the world to see it.
With nearly 80 hectares of landscaped parkland, Nowton Park attracts visitors of all ages.
Marked trails reveal wild flower meadows, woodland, an arboretum, ponds and a hornbeam maze. The large playground, meanwhile, makes Nowton Park a perennial hit with children.
On the other side of town, the wildlife haven of Lackford Lakes is home to kingfishers, dragonflies and otters. West Stow Country Park, with its adventure playground and trails through heath and woodland, provides further opportunities for families to enjoy the great outdoors.
Nearby Fullers Mill Garden is an enchanting and tranquil waterside and woodland garden, situated on the banks of the River Lark at West Stow in Suffolk. It combines a beautiful site of light dappled woodland with a fabulous collection of rare and unusual shrubs, perennials, lilies and marginal plants, collected over 50 years.
The inspirational Italianate gardens at the National Trust's Ickworth House are a must at any time of year.
Restore your calm in these unique formal gardens and the surrounding tranquil woods and parkland.
With stunning countryside, idyllic villages, quirky boutiques and cosy pubs, there are so many wonderful things to do in neighbouring villages and towns.
