Ireland - Ballybunnion beach
I made a stop at Ballybunnion on the Ring of Kerry, and found the most beautiful beach of all my trip in Ireland. A very low grade slope, making for a really, really long beach into the Atlantic. It was still early and low tide. The first part is halfway between the edge of the beach and the water, and shows well how long it is. It took me five minutes of walking to cross it!
After seeing people swim in the ocean, and seeing that the water was nice and blue and clear, I figured that as long as I was there, I would be remiss in not dipping my feet in the ocean! But a surprise would wait for me after I felt the warm sand under my toes: the water temperature, and how the tide was slowly starting back in, and thus some waves were not as small os the ones just preceding...

Ballybunion Beach Volleyball Ireland
Beach Volleyball Ireland returned to the beautiful setting of Ballybunion Beach for Tour #5 - 2018!
It was one of the biggest events of the year with record numbers registering to play...
The single sex competition saw perfect conditions on Saturday with blue skies, no wind and soft sand; whilst the mixed event on Sunday got the full effect of Irish weather with wind, rain, then sun for the finals. The Open Net Sessions saw some excited and inspired juniors turn out to learn to play!
Ballybunion by the sea is like nowhere else in the world. Home to cliffs you can touch, sunsets to inspire you all year round, blue flag beaches to explore with the Atlantic Ocean in all its magnificence and moods. Inhale the champagne air, make memories to last generations.
Ballybunion is the natural home of well-being. The landscape and coastline has been attracting visitors for hundreds of years, to enjoy soul stirring sea arches and stacks, caves and blow-holes, sky high sand dunes, curative seaweed and golden sands .
At your leisure, enjoy everything from golf to fishing, yoga to bird watching, walking along clifftops or following heritage trails, attending the theatre, fine dining in one of our top-class restaurants or ceol & craic in fantastic local bars.
Ballybunion has countless ways to enchant you. Ask anyone about Ballybunion and watch their face light up as they cherish happy memories of swimming in all weathers, romance and dancing in the town, savouring periwinkles and 99’s, building sandcastles and enjoying seaweed baths, discovering the Nuns beach and Virgin Rock, or dolphin spotting in the summer sun.

Wild Atlantic Way Road Trip Vlog series - Ballybunion Beach
Wild Atlantic Way Road Trip Vlog series - Ballybunion Beach
In this vlog episode we leave Carrigafoyle Castle and continue our journey south along the Wild Atlantic Way.
We arrive in the seaside town of Ballybunion. Ballybunion beach is a beautiful clean beach. The beach is divided in two and in days gone by there men and ladies were kept apart - there was one beach for the ladies and one for the gentlemen.
Today of course the beaches are mixed and both full of activity with people sunbathing and lots of people having surf lessons.
Overlooking both beaches is Ballybunion Castle - a walk around the castle gives you wonderful aerial views of both beaches.
It was so nice to see such a clean and well looked after beach and locals told us that there are regular organised beach cleans.
The Wild Atlantic Way is one of the longest designated coastal road trips in the world at over 2,500 km long. Our road trip of the Wild Atlantic Way started at the most Northern Point of Ireland - Malin Head and finished all the way at the bottom in the town of Kinsale.
The Wild Atlantic way is a road trip of a lifetime and that’s why we just had to do it and produce a travel series of vlogs of our experiences along this magical road. We saw beautiful and dramatic cliffs, stunning beaches, the best sunsets, met lots of lovely people, sung at a shanty festival and saw Ireland at it’s best. If you come to Ireland you must visit the Wild Atlantic Way - even if you can’t do the complete road trip just go and do part of it - absolutely awesome and what a road trip to start off our never ending journey around the Globe.
We hope you enjoy this episode of our Wild Atlantic Way Road Trip Vlog Series.
