Ladli - Vocational training program for abused, orphaned and destitute children in Jaipur, India
Ladli is a vocational training centre for abused, orphaned and destitute girls.
I found this quite an emotional place, all the girls seemed really happy when we first got there they were all dancing in the yard to music and we were told the history of the place by the co-founder.
It started off with just his wife cycling around Jaipur teaching street children how to read. They then received a grant from the Finish Embassy which paid for a bus, teacher and care worker and it has expanded since then.
We then went and watched some of the girls making jewellery. A girl who I think was called Meena called me over and we talked for a while, she has been there for three years and has what looks like a knife scar on the right side of her face. She shows me how they make jewellery and she works very quick and makes some nice designs.
She then shows me all the jewellery that is for sale hanging on the wall that have been made by the girls, I ask her which ones she has made and I decide to buy them, three necklaces and three bracelets. They are far more expensive than you would pay for the same from a shop or hawker in town but I don't care about that as 100% of all money from the girls necklaces go into their bank accounts until they are 18 years old. The total cost came to about 1,700 rupees so I give them 2,000 and told them to keep the change.
After I bought the jewellery I went back to watching what they were doing, making jewellery, dancing and just generally having fun.
Jess broke out the balloons again and all the kids love them.
A bus pulled up at the gates and picked up a number of girls to take back to their accommodation. Then another group left and we asked where they were going and we were told back to the streets as they only had a total of 50 beds. This really made me a bit upset and could not stop thinking about these poor kids for the rest of the day, even when I spoke to Sarah later that night on the phone I shed a tear telling her about it.

Ladli on Flood 22-8-2012.3GP
Due to heavy rainfall in Jaipur on 22.8.12, we have faced massive breakdown at Ladli vocational training centre at Sodala. FYI- our all Ladli stock prepared by children has been destroyed and heavy structural damage at centre has disturbed our all routine activities. In last 48 hrs our main action primarily aims at giving aid to children living on street by providing them food, medical care, clothing and other necessary services on street and slum area. Yesterday, we have distributed around 4000 meals to children and their families as their entire housing structure and arrangements have been collapsed and destroyed due to the rain. 2 mobile health unit of I-India/Ladli is also working on ground and attending health cases at street and slum area. We are also offering our shelter homes as temporary accomodation for children and their families in this emergency.
Fundraising for film on Ladli Girls
Ladli is a project of I-India, a local non-profit, non-governmental organisation. It was established in 1993 and helps over 3000 children daily.
Countless street children in Jaipur are engaged in child labour and cannot afford education. Ladli gives some of these children what they really need, but they can help so much more, if they can reach out to more donors.
We hope to produce a film documenting the lives of some of the children who go to Ladli, in hopes of creating more awareness for the school, and bolster their fundraising efforts.

Friends International: A Vocational Training Social Enterprise
Most children in Cambodia are pressured into working and helping with their family's financial income instead of pursuing an education. In 1994, Sebastien Marot started Friends International as a way to empower and educate the youth in Cambodia. Friends International reaches out to marginalized youth, provides an opportunity for them to learn a vocation, and provide assistance in securing a job or starting a small venture after graduation. Samatol - An effort to correct the social imbalance
Samatol Foundation is a social organization registered in 2006 and is working for runaway children in difficult situations found on railway platforms who arrive in Mumbai from their homes, get addicted to drugs and many times are sucked into the criminal network.
Such children are picked up from railway station by the field workers and brought to shelters initially.
They are then taken to the De-addiction and Home Placement Camp.
Various group activities and counseling helps them to get them de-addicted through a well-planned training camp that transforms them totally and motivates them to return to their homes and pursue a career.
Their parents are found out with great difficulty and they are also counseled about the care they should take to avoid the repetition. The children are then handed over to the parents in a special function.
The children whose families cannot be traced are given vocational training and also admitted in some residential school.
Samatol meets all the expenses of the 45-day transformation camps, which is about Rs. 2 lakh every time (about 3800 USD), through individual and institutional donations.
On an average about 4 such camps are conducted in a year.
In last seven years, Samatol has rehabilitated more than 1100 runaway boys.
CONTESA Family Pillar Vocational Skills Training Centre for AIDS orphans & disadvantaged children
CONTESA is very proud and thrilled that the AIDS orphans and disadvantaged children, who are not academically inclined, can now look forward to a bright future at the FPVSTC. The new Centre is fully operational and accredited by TEVETA ( (Technical Education, Vocational Entrepreneurship Training). T he first intake of students in all seven streams have graduated and now the 2nd intake is now hard at work. The FPVSTC is such a wonderful opportunity for vulnerable young people finishing at the Family Futures Community School (FFCS) who are not suited for an academic route to be equipped to earn a living.
FPVSTC students will come mainly from students or graduates of FFCS, which caters entirely for children who cannot access mainstream education because of poverty or family circumstances. The FPVSTC expects to annually train 140 vulnerable youngsters who have mostly suffered disrupted or incomplete education and are living in poverty because of being orphaned (mainly from AIDS) or from other family disruptions.
The FPVSTC is an innovative project and is expected to make a huge impact on the futures of many orphans and vulnerable children. It was really rewarding to see their enthusiasm and excitement of the prospect of graduating with a marketable skill.
Unlike other training institutions, which charge considerable fees, the courses provided by CONTESA to the orphans and disadvantaged children will be free of charge and only available to those who are orphaned, vulnerable and otherwise completely unable to access any other education or training facilities. Although in time a fee paying stream of students may be added for those who can afford so that these students can subsidise those less fortunate and enable the FPVSTC to eventually become self sustaining. The FPVSTC offers courses to Level 2 Trade Test Certification in 7 trades metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, tailoring and design, bricklaying, computer skills and electrical installation. Because all the students at FPVSTC are orphaned and/or severely vulnerable, none have financial resources, personal support or role models to easily move their training into a viable business, which is the purpose of the whole Skills Training enterprise. A few may go directly into employment but it is expected that the majority will need further help to become independently successful.Family Pillar Vocational & Skills Training Centre, Kabwe
In Zambia 300,000 students each year finish school at Grades 7, 9 or 12, and 111,500 youths between 14 and 18 have no formal education. Nationally there are only 30,000 skills training places provided, all of which charge considerable fees and so are inaccessible to orphans and vulnerable youths. There are no other similar accredited training opportunities in Kabwe for orphaned or disadvantaged youth.
Whilst this is a real life and community changing facility, it is very expensive to operate and give the orphans and disadvantaged children free training so please do donate if you can, every penny helps as 100% of our donations go to our programmes. Thank you.
