Old Photographs Of Elie East Neuk Of Fife Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Elie, Scottish Gaelic, èaladh, a coastal town in the East Neuk of Fife, on the north coast of the Firth of Forth. Little is known of the foundation of Elie, but it had become sufficiently important to merit the building of Elie Parish Church in 1639. Elie's harbour was expanded in 1850. The nearby railway, part of the Fife Coast Railway, was built in 1857, and extended through Elie to Anstruther in 1863. The villages opened up to the affluent tourist trade of Victorian times in the 1870s, which saw regular steamers from North Berwick and Leith in Edinburgh. The explosion of modern communications saw the nature of the local economy change. Coal mining dwindled after the railway came to the area. Cotton weavers abandoned their trade after the switch to linen made from imported flax. Fishing gradually declined. The growing tourist trade caused a local building boom, which would have provided work for stonemasons. There were also golf club makers in the village for many years. The film The Winter Guest, starring Emma Thompson and Phyllida Law, directed by Alan Rickman, was filmed here. A notable landmark is Lady's Tower, built in 1760 for Lady Janet Anstruther to use as a changing room prior to her morning bathing routine. She was the daughter of a Scottish merchant and renowned for her beauty and reputation as a flirt. Prior to her skinny dipping she sent out one of her servants into the town of Elie to advise local residents of her imminent skinny dipping so they would stay away from her private tower.
Scotland's Stunning Coast and Baby Alpacas! | Elie Beach & Lighthouse | Fife Scotland
Fife video 2! Another stunner in Scotland as we head to Claireville Alpacas for some craziness and then onto the Fife Coastal Path to explore Elie beach and Elie Ness Lighthouse. ⬇ More Below ⬇
Is there anything better than a sunny Scotland?? The Kingdom of Fife continues to impress on this visit, each day get's better and today was a real highlight of our trip.
Fife day 2 started off with a visit to Claireville Alpacas for an hour of absolute madness. We took the alpacas for a walk, fed them, hung out with their baby alpacas and then got to meet their crazy unique sheep. Check out Claireville Alpacas here for a hilarious and fun walk or event:
After some food at Bowhouse the sun came out so we hit up a highlight of Fife Coastal Path, Elie. The Elie beach is a magical and calm place, barely anyone there and it was stunning! This is like a 3 in 1 situation bonus, theres the beach, the Elie Ness Lighthouse and the Lady Janet Anstruther's Tower all within a few minutes of each other.

Walk To Kellie Castle East Neuk Of Fife Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of a walk to Kellie Castle on visit to the East Neuk Of Fife. The earliest records of Kellie go back to 1150 where it is mentioned in a charter issued by King David I. The first known owner was Robert of London, the illegitimate son of King William the Lion. By 1266 Kellie had passed to the Siward family, who had hailed from Northumbria and had assisted King Malcolm Canmore to overthrow Macbeth. The Siewards supported England during the wars of independence and as a result Sir Richard Sieward forfeited his lands in Scotland after Bannockburn. However his daughter Helena Sieward, Lady Kellie retained Kellie.

Muckle Flugga Lighthouse
The brothers Thomas and David Stevenson designed and built the lighthouse in 1854, originally to protect ships during the Crimean War.
First lit on 1 January 1858, it stands 20 m high, has 103 steps to the top, and is Britain's most northerly lighthouse.
The light beam flashes white every 20 seconds, with a nominal range of 35 km. In March 1995 it was fully automated.

Birkhill Castle North Fife Scotland
Tour Scotland video of Birkhill Castle by the River Tay in North Fife. Birkhill Castle, hereditary estate of the Earl of Dundee. The Earl is also Hereditary Royal Banner Bearer for Scotland. His forbear was awarded this office by the Scottish King Alexander II in the 13th Century and his predecessors carried the Scottish Banner for William Wallace at Stirling Bridge and Robert Bruce at Bannockburn. Bruce appointed the Banner Bearer and his successors as custodians of the City of Dundee. Birkhill was built in 1780 by Viscount Dundee, nearly 100 years after the 1st Viscount Dundee, John Graham of Claverhouse known as both Bloody Clavers and Bonnie Dundee depending on whether you were a Covenanter or not) was killed at the Battle of Killliecrankie in 1689. Between 1857 and 1859 Birkhill was given a Tudor Baronial treatment by the architect David Bryce. The current chief of Clan Scrymgeour is Alexander Henry Scrymgeour of Dundee, the 12th Earl of Dundee has followed his father into politics in the House of Lords. The Scrymgeour family seat is still at Birkhill north of Cupar in Fife. The clan seat was once at Dudhope Castle until the Scrymageour family sold the castle in 1668 to John Graham of Claverhouse.

Jbeil Byblos Old Port 1960's
At the base of the historic quarter is the harbor of Byblos. This harbor was probably used for fishing and not for trade by the Phoenicians. The bottom of the current harbor is not deep enough to be able to receive the large ships used for the Phoenicians’ active maritime trade. Archaeologists are still searching for the location of the ancient Phoenician harbor.
The Crusaders built defensive towers on either side of the mouth of the port, and a chain could be raised between the two towers to prevent boats from entering. The northern tower was restored during the Mamluke and Ottoman eras and is still in fairly good condition.
Climb to the top of the tower and look down into the water to see the remains of the ancient quays. You can take a boat ride in the harbor during spring summer, and fall.
Around 3000 BC, Byblos Port was the most important timber shipping center in the eastern Mediterranean. It was used by the Phoenicians to ship Cedars of Lebanon and other wood to the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt to be used in tomb construction and shipbuilding.

To Bombay
A traveling circus came
They brought an intelligent elephant
And Nellie was her name
One dark night
She slipped her iron chain
And off she ran to Hindustan
And was never seen again
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Night by night
She danced to the circus band
When Nellie was leading the big parade
She looked so proud and grand
No more tricks
For Nellie to perform
They taught her how to take a bow
And she took the crowd by storm
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
The head of the herd was calling
Far, far away
They met one night in the silver light
On the road to Mandalay
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
