Tasmania's Prettiest Waterfall | Russell Falls
Russell Falls makes a great day trip and will give you a real taste of Tasmania's magnificent wilderness within an easy drive from Hobart.
Russell Falls is arguably Tasmania's prettiest waterfall. It is Tasmania's most photographed and one of the easiest to get to.
The falls are in Mount Field National Park, just over a 1 hour drive from Hobart.
The 20 minute return walk to the falls is a good track and boardwalk through a lovely rainforest. The walk passes through towering swamp gums and species typical of wet forests and cool temperate rainforest such as dogwood, musk and myrtle. Closer to the falls track is framed by stunning tall tree ferns.
The two other falls in the park, Lady Barron Falls and Horseshoes Falls, are enchanting in their own way and if you have the time worth the extra effort.
On the day we only took the extra time to check out Horseshoe Falls - to make a second 15km trip further up the mountain to Lake Dobson.
With Dramatic mountain scenery and unique alpine plant communities are a feature. We were surprised and amazed on the day that there was snow! we took a quick walk all around Dobson Lake.

Russell Falls, Mount Field National Park, Tasmania [Australia]
Russel Falls is arguably Tasmania's prettiest waterfall; it's certainly Tasmania's most photographed and one of the easiest to get to.
The falls are in Mt Field National Park, part of Tasmania's World Heritage Wilderness Area, just over a 1-hr drive from Hobart. One of three falls that share the same watercourse, Russel Falls has a unique character and is the centrepiece of the park.
The falls consist of two main drops with a pleasing segmented, vertical appearance. This, along with its size, gives it a personality all its own.
The 20-minute return walk to the falls is on a good track and boardwalk through lovely rainforest. The walk passes through towering swamp gums and species typical of wet forests and cool temperate rainforests such as dogwood, musk and myrtle. Closer to the falls the track is framed by stunning tall tree ferns.
You can return via the same track or follow the creek back by crossing the bridge below the falls.
For local campers, a walk to the falls at night is made easier with a wooden handrail that follows the path into recesses that are the home of glow-worms. It's truly magical to turn off your torch and find yourself surrounded by hundreds of little lights like stars in the sky.
The two other falls in the park, Lady Barron Falls and Horseshoe Falls, are enchanting in their own right and if you have time are worth the extra effort.
An excellent walk that offers the best of the park's lower altitude tracks includes Russell Falls, Lady Barron Falls and the Tall Trees Walk past giant Eucalyptus regnans, amongst the tallest trees in Australia and the tallest flowering plant on Earth. They are truly spectacular and not to be missed.
A second visitor section, 15 km further up the mountain, takes you to Lake Dobson and the longer day walks. Dramatic mountain scenery and unique alpine plant communities are a feature at this higher altitude.
From Hobart, the drive to the park passes through the beautiful Derwent Valley following the Derwent River for most of the way. Take the opportunity to stop at New Norfolk, one of Tasmania's oldest towns and a great place to find antiques and collectables.
Mt Field has camping facilities, toilets, electric barbecues, kiosk and a visitor centre near the start of the track. Cabins are available just outside the park boundary.

Mt Field waterfalls circuit
This walk encompasses three excellent waterfalls in Tasmania's Mt Field National Park: Lady Barron Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Russell Falls. We walked this circuit in a clockwise direction, which is as far as I'm aware the less common way to walk it. The waterfalls were all flowing extremely well, however there were a lot of people out and about, meaning it wasn't a fantastic 'wilderness' experience.
Apologies for not posting for a couple of weeks, I was sick for a bit over a week, so heading out on a bushwalk was not a priority haha.

Mount field national park - Russel falls trip
Russell Falls is situated in the southern part of the Central Highlands, in the Mt. Field National Park. Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes drive west from Hobart, Russell Falls is accompanied by Horseshoe Falls and Lady Barron Falls.
This spectacular waterfall is downstream from Horseshoe Falls on Russell Falls Creek, and has an excellent flow of water during the winter / spring months.
Not only is Russell Falls one of Tasmania's best waterfalls to visit, it boasts being one of few waterfalls that can be reached with a wheelchair. The flat 10 minute walk from the Information Centre leads you directly to the Russell Falls viewing platform at the base of the waterfall. Other viewing platforms alongside the waterfall and above the waterfall can also be accessed for people who are able to negotiate staircases.
* These falls were originally known as Browning Falls after the original discoverer around 1856, but by 1884, it had become a very popular tourist attraction and became known as Russell Falls.

Four Seasons In One Day at Mount Field National Park
Mount Field is known as one of the most popular national parks in Tasmania, Australia, with its landscape ranges from eucalyptus temperate rainforest to alpine moorland. The weather here can change quickly so carrying appropriate clothing is a must. There are various walking tracks that suits different age groups, such as short walks with Russell Falls/Horseshoe Falls/Tall Trees Circuit/Lady Barron Falls, and long walks like Mount Field East Circuit and Tarn Shelf Circuit.

This video was taken during a trip to National Park in Tasmania. There are 3 different waterfalls at National park and the Lady Barren Falls is one of them and is about a 40 minute walk from the National Park Information Centre and in the opposite direction to Russel Falls and Horseshoe Falls.

Tasmania Photos Slideshow
We Explored wilderness of Tasmania in December 2015, it was one of physically demanding trips, our experience in bush walking turned out to be elementary and we could barely explore 1/10th of what Tasmania has to offer. If you love Nature and Adventure then Tasmania won't disappoint you.
Places we visited were
-Mt Wellington
-Huon Valley and Tahnue Airwalk ( Elevated- 20 meters above the ground) and over Huon Pine Trees
-Mt Field National Park- Russell Falls/Horseshoe Falls/Tall Trees Circuit/Lady Barron Falls
-Cradle Mountain- Lake St Clair Nation Park
-Freycinet National Park- wineglass Bay
-Port Arthur Historic site- Tasman Island Cruise
-Hobart and around- Salamanca Market
It was great trip, Tasmania has a lot more to offer, if I were to pick up one highlight of our trip, it would be Tasman Island Cruise- it is 3 hours of pure MAGIC. It is certainly most impressive coastline with most beautiful VERTICAL CLIFFS!!!!! it has highest vertical sea cliff in southern hemisphere, we saw Sea Eagles/pods of playful Dolphins/Seals/Albatross- pay attention to series of pictures of Albatross taking off on water- it paddles for a while before it is airborne.
Hope you like the pictures. As always watch on a big screen TV, go to setup and change HD 720P, suggest NOT watching on a mobile phone.
Thanks for watching
