Ladybird Hill Cafe, Restaurant & Winery
Catch your very own Salmon while dining at Ladybird Hill in Omarama, Mackenzie Country, New Zealand.
Our café/restaurant & Bar specialises in an all day menu that caters for everyone from travelers in a hurry to customers that want to spend the day.
Salmon fishing is a large part of what we are all about at Ladybird Hill Omarama. We have our own Salmon farm license which enables customers to enjoy the thrill of catching a feisty salmon then having it hot smoked within 30 minutes ready to eat.
Everything is supplied and you only pay for what you catch. Another great attraction is in one of our other ponds holding large rainbow and brown trout that can be hand feed from the jetty.
We welcome our helicopter friends to pay us a visit. Open hours are Thursday through to Sunday from 10am.
We have our very own Civil Aviation Authority & Council approved heliport behind the restaurant that is clearly marked. Consent requires helicopters to approach from the south of Ladybird Hill flying over farmland and leave in a southerly direction.
The flight path is defined as approaching and departing in a quadrant between 180 degrees (south) and 315 degrees (north west) of the HLA.
Kids of all ages spend hours playing in our themed ladybird playground, as well as challenging themselves with the giant chess game.
Ladybird Hill Winery is the highest winery in New Zealand at 440m above sea level and the first to plant grape vines in the district having planted some 20+ years ago 5200 Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc plants and have now become some of the best cold climate wines in the region. We also sell other wines from the Waitaki Valley.
Try our magnificent walking track. The view from our lookout is simply stunning and offers a 360 degree view of Omarama and the surrounding mountains and valleys!
Omarama is known worldwide for its spectacular gliding and this is the best place to view it.

Ladybird Hill in Omarama. Straight from the water to the smoker and 30 minutes later on the table along with one of their delicious wines...
Hard to beat..............
Omarama
A quick look at the Godzone Photoscenery Subscription issue 2 scenery, with a glider flight over Omarama using Prepar3D.
The airfield is not included in the Godzone Subscription, as it is Lawrie Roache's freeware NZOA. He does supply a version without the grass poly, which may suit the photoscenery better.
The NZOA treelines don't line up with the photoscenery, but it works well in Prepar3d despite this.
Issue 2 of the Godzone Subscription extends the Alps scenery from issue 1 further south, covering Lake Ohau, and the hydro scheme, which has had a huge affect on the landscape. This is a weird but interesting part of New Zealand, quite under-rated really.
