Places to see in ( Cortina d'Ampezzo - Italy ) Lagazuoi
Mount Lagazuoi, part of the Fanis Mountain Group, presented itself and still looks like a real rock castle, with spiers, towers, military bases, trenches, tunnels and an internally excavated labyrinth that made it the Austrian military base more interesting than the Dolomites, reachable on foot or using the cable car.
The nearby Sasso de Stria is another Austrian location, located between the Lagazuoi and the Col di Lana, near the Valparola Pass road. An interesting place to defend against Italian attacks, sculpted in the mountain strewn with trenches, walkways, tunnels and posts. The top of the mountain can be reached on foot along the countless trenches dug into the rock, or through the impressive Galleria Goiginger starting from Passo Valparola, used by soldiers to safely reach the summit and built by Marshal Ludwig Goiginger in 1916.
Finally, the Cinque Torri, more isolated and located near the Falzarego Pass, represent the installation of the Italian Mountain Artillery Group Command, where the batteries of cannons were placed against the Austrian positions of Lagazuoi and Forte Tre Sassi . In this place it is possible to visit the still intact trenches and some reconstructions of war environments, including the cannons and some shelters. The Cinque Torri open-air museum can be reached on foot via a mountain path or by cable car.
Thanks to the modern Lagazuoi cable car at the Falzarego Pass , you can reach a height of 2800 meters in just 3 minutes. In just 6 minutes you can reach the 5 towers , fantastic pinnacles of a mystical castle with the four-chair gondola lift . The brand new chairlift Croda Negra connects the Giau ski area with the Val Badia, Val Pusteria and Val Gardena ski areas, with the said routes only accessible by skis and lifts.

Rifugio Lagazuoi is one of the most elevated mountain in in the Dolomites. Its spacious deck is so famous for the breathtaking views on the Dolomite peaks , UNESCO World Heritage , that it has appeared on several Italian (Dove, Bell'Italia, the Touring Club Guide) and international magazines.
It is nestled on the summit of Mount Lagazuoi above Passo Falzarego, half way between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Val Badia, between the Natural Park of Fanes and Sennes and the one of the Ampezzo Dolomites. It can be easily reached hiking or by the Lagazuoi cable car.
It's an excellent starting point to visit the restored galleries, trenches and emplacements of the 1st World War Open Museum and to ski along the famous Armentarola, the longest and most spectacular slope of the Dolomites, and on all the slopes of the Cortina and Val Badia ski areas.

Places to see in ( Cortina d'Ampezzo - Italy ) Cinque Torri
Places to see in ( Cortina d'Ampezzo - Italy ) Cinque Torri
Cinque Torri (sometimes named also Cinque Torri di Averau; German: Fünf Türme) are a small group belonging to Nuvolao group, in the Dolomiti Ampezzane (part of the Eastern Dolomites) north-west of San Vito di Cadore and south-west of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Cinque Torri, as all the other mountains in the area, are made of Dolomia, with a particular pale grey colour. The group is formed by five towers (which give the name to the mountain) with a maximum elevation of 2.361 m (Torre Grande). Every tower has its own name:
Torre Grande, the highest one has three very appealing peaks for rock climbers: Cima Nord, Cima Sud e Cima Ovest;
Torre Seconda, also named Torre del Barancio or Torre Romana;
Terza Torre, or Torre Latina;
Quarta Torre, formed by two blocks of rock with different height, respectively called then Torre Quarta Bassa and Torre Quarta Alta;
Quinta Torre, or Torre Inglese.
They are located in the south-west area of the valley of Cortina d'Ampezzo, north of the Averau mountain, which Cinque Torri can be considered part of. In the Cinque Torri area there are the following rifugi (mountain hut):
Rifugio Cinque Torri, m 2.137
Rifugio Scoiattoli, m 2.255
During summer it is possible to do excursions in the woods and on paths, among which it is worth to mention Alta Via 1 of the Dolomites, the Muraglia di Giau (along the border between comuni of Cortina and San Vito di Cadore, itineraries towards Nuvolau e il Passo Giau and the historical path in the trenches of the World War I.
The towers also provide good and popular rock climbing with various routes at a range of grades up all of the towers. In winter, Cinque Torri are a very important ski area, whose tracks belong to the wider Dolomiti Superski area. Therefore, they are connected to the nearby mountains Lagazuoi and Col Gallina. Until a few years ago it was possible to ski only towards Lagazuoi - Col Gallina - Cinque Torri, but starting from winter season 2008-2009 it is possible also to go from the Cinque Torri area to the higher area of Falzarego Pass by mean of the lift Croda Negra and the corresponding track beyond Averau mountain.

Lagazuoi (Dolomites) - ski-run to Armentarola, most beautiful slope! (filmed on GoPro HD Hero)
From the villages of Corvara, Colfosco, La Villa, Badia and La Val you reach by ski or public bus the locality Armentarola in San Cassiano, from where taxis bring you to the Falzarego pass.
At the pass the Lagazuoi cable car goes up to the Lagazuoi mountain, where you can enjoy a 360° panorama view of the Dolomites mountains.
As a warmer you should try the red slope Lagazuoi that takes you back to Passo Falzarego. You are then ready for the true descent of the Lagazuoi ski tourLagazuoi, as it is known - the Armentarola piste. This ski slope that stretches for 7.2 km and has an altitude difference of 1,130 m descends through the mountains, passing beside ice cascades, until the Sass Dlacia area from where, pulled by horses, you arrive at the ski lift Armentarola that takes you back up to the Alta Badia ski-carousel.

Places to see in ( Cortina d'Ampezzo - Italy ) Tofana
The Tofana area contains a large number of hike and bike trails at every level of difficulty, as well as some of the most spectacular via-ferrata routes in the Dolomites. The ferrata Punta Anna leads towards the very top of the Tofana di Mezzo, while the ferrata Lipella takes excursionists to the summit of the magnificent Tofana di Rozes.
Rock climbing enthusiasts will find a fantastic maze of walls and climbing routes, a testimony to the history of mountaineering in the Dolomites. On the lower reaches of Tofana there is no shortage of mountain bike trails.
From the beginners’ slopes of the lower area you can quickly reach the more technically demanding slopes higher up, such as the Canalone and the famous Schuss. The Freccia nel Cielo cable car takes you to Ra Valles at an altitude of 2.500m.
Take the Olympia Ski Tour to experience the unforgettable slopes of the 1956 Olympic races, which today host the Women’s Ski World Cup. The beautiful and steep Vertigine Bianca slope, for expert skiers only, is one of two slopes in Cortina not prepped, allowing skiers to enjoy fresh snow on an eco-friendly and zero impact run.

Lagazuoi

The battles during the First World War in the Dolomites between Austria-Hungary and Italy were of interest for me for quite a while already. Because of that i was very happy to finally see the Lagazuoi myself and also scaling it via the Austrian Mountaineer Path!
While going up and down the mountain i came across many old trenches and shelters, which made the tour an exceptional experience together with the excellent view.

Lagazuoi is a mountain in the Dolomites of northern Italy, lying at an altitude of 2,835 metres (9,301 ft), about 18 kilometres (11 mi) southwest by road from Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Veneto Region. It is accessible by cable car and contains the Rifugio Lagazuoi, a mountain refuge situated beyond the northwest corner of Cima del Lago. The mountain range is well known for its wartime tunnels and First World War mine warfare. The extensive tunnels were built by the Italian troops trying to wrest control from Austro-Hungarian troops who also built tunnels. The tunnels are now open as a de facto museum.

Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy in the heart of The Dolomites - the most beautiful mountain in the world!
Cortina dÁmpezzo, Italy is a small town in the Alps surrounded from all sides with the incredible peaks of the Dolomites and offering some of the most stunning views a mountain can offer! It is amazing creature of nature with a breath taking beauty! We traveled through the forest and marveled at the magestic stone peaks covered with snow, we walked the streets of Cortina and gazed at the incredible rock formation of the Dolomites and we decided that it is only normal to drive all the way up and see those monsters from up close! It was worth it! The mountain from the top is even more beautiful and there is no photo or video that can recreate the beauty of it! We did our best and we know it is not comparable to the real sight! Still, if we can awake your curiosity and make you take a trip to see the Cortina dÁmezzo with your own eyes it will be all worth it! We hope you enjoy the video and that you will one day also make the trip to the most beautiful mountain in the world! Thank you for watching!

A hike filled with a lot of WWI history. More info: alavigne.net/Outdoors/FeatureReports/ViaFerrata/?p=vflagazuoi
We actually planned to do a Via Ferrata on this day, however our guide recommended otherwise due to foul weather in the area.
We hiked up to Rifugio Lagazuoi (also accessible by cable car) and then down through over 1 km of tunnels to Rifugio Dibona, where we continued to hike up to our overnight lodging at Rifugio Pomedes.
