[4K] Lanzarote, Lagomar (2019) - Most Beautiful Place in the World? (Spain)
Lagomar feels like the most beautiful place in the world when you're there, (and should definitely be on your top 10 Canary islands, Spain list.) It is found in the village of Nazaret, Lanzarote. Conceived by the great artist
Cesar Manrique, this breathtaking home built into the natural cliff, caves and tunnels is now a Museum and art gallery.
The Lagomar Lanzarote Restaurant looks out across the lake that sits in the middle of the home, surrounded by incredible rock gardens and palm trees.
The story is that it was owned by the Doctor Zhivago actor Omar Sharif, for just a few months, before the home's original developer, San Benardy, won it from him in a bridge game. Spend a little time and we're sure you'll agree it could even be the most beautiful home in the world.

LAGOMAR Nazaret Lanzarote 30.06.2016
-LAGOMAR- Museum in Nazaret Lanzarote
Originally conceived by César Manrique and designed by the artist Jesús Soto for the British developer Sam Benady with an architectural vision which could evoke mental imagery from the arabian nights mythology.
In the early 1970s actor Omar Sharif came to Lanzarote to film “The Mysterious Island”, he visited LagOmar, fell in love with it and bought it.
San Benady knowing Sharif’s reputation as a card player challenged him to a game of Bridge. Sharif accepted the challenge, not realizing that Benady was also a champion Bridge player, and allegedly lost the house.
In 1989 architects Dominik von Boettinger from Germany and Beatriz van Hoff from Uruguay bought the house and initiated the last phase of development. They sought the advice of local artists and created a vernacular architecture inspired by the elements and the island’s capricious topography.
The existing caves were refurbished using wood and artifacts from local shipwrecks, for the beams and lights. Local flora was incorporated in the design: cactus, palm, aloes and bougainvillea, to form an oasis within the rock. They used glass, washed concrete and pebbles to generate circular patios, the lake, cascades and a series of curvaceous spaces avoiding all forms of square tiling whatsoever.
Guest cottages conceived for 2 people offering on different levels living area, kitchenette, double bedroom with bath/shower and protected terraces with wide views over the distant craters to the sea. Modern furnishing contrasts with natural rocks invading the rooms. Further a small private pool nests in the rock garden.

TRAVEL VLOG | LANZAROTE: LAGOMAR, THE HOUSE OF OMAR SHARIF IN NAZARET.
Welcome to Lagomar: the house of the actor Omar Sharif in Lanzarote!
The famous house Omar Sharif, built into the heart of a volcanic quarry, was conceived by Cesar Manrique for the british developer Sam Benady. He had the vision to follow the irregular lava shapes, remains of the excavation, leaving the rock visible in the inside, combining it with white walls and green planters, creating this unique place.
This concept was carried out together with the artist Jesus Soto, seeking to recreate spaces that would transport the visitor to stories of the 1001 nights.
The legend goes that the actor Omar Sharif who was at the time filming in Lanzarote The Misterious Island visited the house, fell under its spell and bought it.
The developer then, knowing Omar's world wide reputation as a card player, challenged him to a game of Bridge, in the course of which Omar lost the house, as he didn't know that his opponent was the European bridge champion.
Ever since, the one day owner of the house left and never returned.
From this moment the house is known as Casa Omar Sharif.
