The Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, Khaled Al-Anani, officially opened to the public the pyramid of Pharaoh Senusret II, situated in the Faiyum governorate, Friday.
Until now, the Al Lahun pyramid, which hails from the Twelfth Dynasty, was closed for restoration works that had begun in the 19th century, according to Al-Anani.
The inauguration of the monument came with new discoveries, as excavation works reportedly carried out on the southern side of the pyramid helped uncover a range of artefacts, including a variety of wooden masks.

Newly-restored Fayoum pyramid reopened
(28 Jun 2019) Egypt's Minister of Antiquities announced Friday the reopening of the Pyramid of Senusret II near the city of Fayoum after restoration work had been carried out due to climatic effects and environmental erosion.
Khaled el-Enany showed the media the pyramid's burial chamber and said work to open the monument to visitors began six months ago.
Built by the architect Anupy for Senusret II, Egyptian pharaoh in the Twelfth Dynasty, el-Enany said the pyramid was first excavated by British archaeologist William Flinders Petrie in the 19th century but had since filled with debris.
When it was re-excavated, workers discovered items including cartonnage masks, amulets and statues which were put on display.

Die Pyramide von Hawara (El Faiyum, Ägypten 1976)
Vom Gouverneur der Provinz El Faiyum bekommen wir eine Sondergenehmigung zum Besuch der Pyramide von Hawara. Sie liegt in einem militärischen Sperrgebiet.
Amenemhet III liess sie im 2. Jahrtausend v.

Egypt's Lost Labyrinth & the Pyramid of Amenemhet lll at Hawara | Megalithomania
Join Megalithomania in November 2020 to explore Egypt on a specially designed 13 day tour for Megalithomaniacs. Details at An exploration of the remains of the Hawara Pyramid and the mysterious underground Labyrinth with Andrew Collins and Hugh Newman, with a guest appearance from Jj Ainsworth. It is a 12th dynasty pyramid and has a megalithic foundation with mud brick construction on top. The strange labyrinth is now mostly destroyed but parts of it still can still be seen. Herodotus, in Book II of 'Histories', describes the labyrinth and he considered it to surpass the pyramids in grandeur:
It has twelve covered courts — six in a row facing north, six south — the gates of the one range exactly fronting the gates of the other. Inside, the building is of two storeys and contains three thousand rooms, of which half are underground, and the other half directly above them. I was taken through the rooms in the upper storey, so what I shall say of them is from my own observation, but the underground ones I can speak of only from report, because the Egyptians in charge refused to let me see them, as they contain the tombs of the kings who built the labyrinth, and also the tombs of the sacred crocodiles. The upper rooms, on the contrary, I did actually see, and it is hard to believe that they are the work of men; the baffling and intricate passages from room to room and from court to court were an endless wonder to me, as we passed from a courtyard into rooms, from rooms into galleries, from galleries into more rooms and thence into yet more courtyards. The roof of every chamber, courtyard, and gallery is, like the walls, of stone. The walls are covered with carved figures, and each court is exquisitely built of white marble and surrounded by a colonnade.
