A Drone Perspective of Lake Argyle, Western Australia
Lake Argyle Dam Wall was built against the mighty Ord River back in the early 1970's to create irrigation channels for agriculture. The Ord River flows through the township of Kununurra and out by the Port of Wyndham.
Lake Argyle's massive amount of pristine freshwater and ancient landscapes needs to be seen to believed.
Put this on your list of things to do folks, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Its been nearly 2 months since we came into the state of Western Australia (better late than never). I didn't really know what to expect. It is a huge man made lake with a dam. The stunning lake is magical. We stayed two nights at a free camp next to the river. The river had a local fresh water croc and some small fish.

Kununurra & Lake Argyle: S03 Western Australia E18 Road Trip Lap
We arrived into Kununurra and took stock, before heading down to Lake Argyle. We stayed at a great free camp, hired a BBQ boat to explore, crocodile spot, fish and then swim in Lake Argyle. We also braved the waters of the Lake Argyle Resort pool to swim whilst looking out at some amazing Lake Argyle scenery.

After a fantastic time in the Northern Territory, we cross back into the home state of Western Australia.
First up we visit one of Australia's largest dams, Lake Argyle. Really it should be called an inland sea because of its size, holding an impressive 10 000 gigalitres of water.
Lake Argyle Caravan Park is beautifully situated on the side of a hill with an outlook on the immense water expanse. Situated where the workers camp was during the construction of the dam.
Another attraction to check out when in the area is the Durack Homestead Museum.
Lake Arygle Cruises operate on the dam with several cruises available to experience the dam and swim with the estimated 35 000 fresh water crocodiles, or hire a self drive dinghy.

Lake Argyle via Kununurra to Bungle Bungles????????????
After crossing the WA border???? we headed straight down to Lake Argyle for a few nights. We initially set up at the free camp near the spill way. We then drove into Lake Argyle Resort to look into cruises???? and availability. Hearing such great things about the sunset cruise, we decided to splash out and book ourselves some seats.????
We had a great two days relaxing at the spillway camp, recharging our batteries and laying about. On the third day, we packed up early and headed into the Lake Argyle Resort????. All the staff were very nice and let us check in at 9am. We made use of all the facilities, doing some washing and relaxing in the pool, all before our sunset cruise later that afternoon. ????
It was a brilliant few hours at on the Lake, learning about it and seeing different points of interest???? (see previous post for sunset cruise photos). After the cruise, we treated ourselves to dinner and drinks at the bar. Sitting back, sipping down a coldy???? while listening to the live entertainment. You can see why people love staying here.
Our next destination was into Kununurra, to top up with fresh fruit and veggies!???? Unfortunately for us we didn’t realize alot of the town is shut on Sundays, so very little was open. We chose to go up the road to camp and return the next day. Our campsite of choice was ‘Buttons Crossing’ for the night. It was a nice peaceful place, on the edge of a sandy river. Just have to be careful as the river was croccy ????
The next day we drove over the iconic Ivanhoe water crossing and got a few pictures????. Then detouring up the road to check out the Hoochery Distillery. After a few samples and a light lunch we headed back into Kununurra to grab some groceries and refill our gas. We camped at a free camp about 30km out of town, as we had planned to detour down⬇️ to the Bungles Bungles for a look.
We set up camp at the Spring Creek Rest area which is 1km south of the Bungle Bungles intersection. Day tripping it in to visit the Domes, Cathedral gorge and Echidna Chasm. The 50km dirt road from the intersection into the Information centre was horrendous????. It took us 90 minutes each way and it was in a terrible condition.
The next day we made our way up to Cockburn rest area for an overnight stop???? before starting the infamous Gibb River Road the following day.

Welcome back to Episode 22 of Road Trip Australia!! Stoked to have you all back for another video and to show you our travels from Broome to Lake Argyle in Western Australia!!
As you all know, we love WA and all it's amazing locations so in this episode we will show you a couple more rippers that we find. We stop in at a remote campsite surrounded by BOAB tree's which is also a great place to explore the Famous Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge.
We hit a few great free camps on our way to Kununurra, where we pull up at Kimberyland to explore town, check out Ivanhoe Crossing and catch a Barra!!
Then we head out to stay at Lake Argyle and explore on a BBQ boat. A fun day full of cliff jumping, fishing and snags!!!
We loved this stretch and we only just scratched the surface as to what's on offer along the way..
A good wet season this year and we will be back up there to do the Gibb River Road and show you guys around.

I fell in love with Lake Argyle and the East Kimberley when we stopped there on our road trip around Australia (The Big Lap) and we ended up spending 6 weeks there earning some extra dollars for our trip and filming a documentary (Discovering Lake Argyle) about the region, including it’s history going back to the arrival of the Durack Family in the 1800’s, through to the Ord River Scheme which created Lake Argyle.
Now I’m heading back with my dog Buddy on a 4 week, 8500km road trip from Melbourne to Lake Argyle and back to film updates for the 2019 edition of Discovering Lake Argyle.
And I’m bringing you along with us in this multi-episode YouTube Series ‘Steve & Buddy’s Big Adventure'.
