Lake Assal in Djibouti
Lake Assal is a crater lake in central-western Djibouti. It is located at the western end of Gulf of Tadjoura in the Tadjoura Region, touching Dikhil Region, at the top of the Great Rift Valley, some 120 km west of Djibouti city. Lake Assal is a saline lake which lies 155 m below sea level in the Afar Triangle, making it the lowest point on land in Africa and the third-lowest point on Earth after the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. No outflow occurs from the lake, and due to high evaporation, the salinity level of its waters is 10 times that of the sea, making it the most saline in the world after Don Juan Pond. Lake Assal is the world's largest salt reserve, which is exploited under four concessions awarded in 2002 at the southeast end of the lake; the major share of production (nearly 80%) is held by Société d’Exploitation du Lac and Société d’Exploitation du Salt Investment S.A de Djibouti.
The lake, considered a national treasure, is a protected zone under the law No. 45/AN/04/5L of the National Environmental Action Plan, 2000. However, the law does not define the boundary limits of the lake. Since the exploitation of the salt from the lake was uncontrolled, the Plan has emphasized the need for managing the exploitation to avoid negative impact on the lake environment. The Government of Djibouti has initiated a proposal with UNESCO to declare the Lake Assal zone and the Ardoukoba volcano as a World Heritage Site.
Lay back, relax, and let the blue-turquoise waters hug you as you float in the honey lake – Lake Assal of Djibouti! While floating in the Dead Sea has always made the bucket lists as a must to do at least once in one’s lifetime, Djibouti’s Lake Assal beats all its previous records and is today the hottest deal for optimal water buoyancy. Get ready as you delve into all that you need to know about this mesmerizing natural wonder.

Travel Guides Lake Assal Djibouti
Lake Assal Djibouti
Lac Assal is most likely the main vacation spot in Djibouti. It is arranged around 40 km from the capital and the actually importance is 'nectar lake'. By and by it is justified regardless of the outing and what you will see must be depicted as sublime. It is the most reduced point on the African mainland with 155 m under the ocean level. That by itself ought to be sufficient to visit this place. In history the Salt Lake has been utilized by numerous convoys and was an outstanding exchanging place for various realms. Nowadays you will even now observe some of these salt troops gathering salt.
How to Visit
Lake Assal is a cool place to visit without a doubt, yet it won't come shoddy. Djibouti is an exceptionally costly nation to movement. Sustenance, Transportation, and convenience are all more costly than in neighboring nations. Ask any visit organization, and they will cite you a to a great degree high cost only for a short day trek to lake assal. The less expensive choice will take a taxi there. When you read a wide range of things online that you should just take a 4WD auto, however no, you needn't bother with one. you can took a modest, old taxi and it was okay. Also, by modest I mean shabby in Djiboutian guidelines. You composed the taxi a night prior to with the goal that we could leave right on time in the morning. The main value the cabbie cited was walloping $200 (and trust me, this is as yet less expensive than the visits). you can figured out how to get the cost down to $140. In the event that imparting the auto to four individuals, this would be very sensible really – just $35 per individual.
TIPS
Truly you can't on the off chance that you go there in the mid year in light of the fact that the water is simply unendurably hot. On the off chance that you visit the lake in the 'winter,' you could go swimming there what's more, take a stab at drifting like in the Dead Sea.The drive from Djibouti City to Lake Assal takes around two hours one way. It's smarter to leave as right on time as conceivable to be there before the brutal late morning sun. Take a great deal of water with you in light of the fact that there are no offices or shops anyplace close to the lake. You will require it for drinking as well as likewise to rinse on the off chance that you go swimming (or in the event that you simply get your feet wet as I did). The water is to a great degree salty, and it will hurt in the event that you don't wash it.

Lac Abbe: Life on the Edge
Life on the edge of Lac Abbé is as tough as it gets. Straddling the Ethiopia - Djibouti border, the huge salt lake is a difficult place to get to, and a seemingly impossible place to live. Yet somehow people do live there. We meet the formerly nomadic people who have now settled near the lake. We learn how their change of life-style could potentially contribute to their own demise, and the demise of the unique biodiversity which surrounds them.
