Today we are walking in a new location, which, like Lake Fayetteville, is a paved trail surrounding a lake, known as Lake Atalanta, located in Rogers, Arkansas, about a half-hour drive from the usual location in Fayetteville. It is just as beautiful and I can see the lake from the trail over the entire perimeter. I think it is four miles, which makes it easier to extend the workout by walking a second lap.
Muscle mass. Comparing my BIA (bioelectrical impedence analysis) from February, with the current reading from my scale, it looks like I have gained a net three pounds. I have lost 28 pounds since the initial reading, so I know I have lost muscle in this process, but have probably started gaining since I am starting to do serious resistance training. I had hoped to do better with gains, but I think this is far more difficult to do when I am always in a caloric deficit.
Fashion report. Despite my previous experience with a pair of shorts purchased at Walmart (a hole tore in the pocket soon after I bought them), I purchased another pair from the same place. It is a different brand, so let's hope it lasts longer. But I couldn't keep working out five to six days per week with only one pair of shorts. I also bought a pair of weightlifting gloves which I will also use when I row, because I developed blisters from my last session on the rowing machine. Summer is coming to a close, so think about your winter wardrobe, and perhaps getting some summer items on sale as the seasons change.
Despite the rain, I love my life and it is always a beautiful day somewhere.

Lake Atalanta Frisco and Maximus trails
This 10 miles network of trails is located in Rogers, AR near the Railyard bike park.
We followed the paved trail a few yards to a dirt trail called The Dump it was at this point you find the only man made features on this trail. The Dump really had nothing technical on it just some fast trails with good flow to them but not so much that it took away from the old school feel of the trail. Almost all the trails on the south side are like this.
There are a few technical areas out there like heading down from Rail Tie to crossover to Lasso. The most technical sections were located on the Maximus trail with some nice rock features that will keep you on your toes as well as some drops and step-ups and the occasional root. Maximus can also be a little tight and twisty in sections. You will also run across a few sections scattered throughout the trails that have lots of loose rock.
As far as the terrain goes there is not a lot of climbing on these trails. I think the most climbing we did was going up from Groms to Controlled Burn and Backbone and even that was not a brutal climb.
One thing I did notice is that on sections of Controlled Burn the trail goes through some open sections where there is no shade and you are exposed to the sun, which on a hot muggy Arkansas day like the one we had the day we rode the trail, those open sections can get pretty warm, the good thing is they are short lived.
Overall I enjoyed these trails they have the feel of the Ouachita trails but the looks of the Ozarks. They are not real flowy trails but you can still fly across these trails none the less.
Most of the trails are good for beginner and up. Maximus is more of an Intermediate trail.
