-:¦:-Lake Awoonga Dam & Pikes Crossing -:¦:- Benaraby Update (PART 2)...with another to come yet
Three video uploads available in this segment. The dam is located 30 Klms from Gladstone and boasts spectacular lake views, mountain views, and picturesque scenery. I hope the recreational areas will be updated as this was once an amazing spot to enjoy BBQ's but only a few left. Alternatively, you still can sit back and enjoy the beautiful views. Kangaroos also show there presence late afternoons and a delightful show of birds. Ideal location for boaties & anglers alike who enjoy the challenge of catching Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Mullet or Eels to name a few or just enjoy a cruise on the lake or a swim. We have had a lot of rain this month and for the first time in 14 years the dam overflows.
Shame I could not find old photos of Pikes Crossing to give you an idea the depth of either side of the bridge. If a car missed the bridge during the flood while crossing, you would not see them. Very dangerous and unsure if there is another exit for the residence or are they trapped? Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed my videos and Merry Christmas Youtube and to All.

CalliopeRiverCampSite
Right next to the highway at Calliope in QLD is 2 great camping spots (one on the Northern and one on the Southern river bank). Easy access, not far off the highway, right beside the river and best of all its FREE!!
Since the first couple of days we arrived at 1770 were going to be windy we kept driving that bit extra up the coast and set up camp here next to the river. Though all we managed was a couple of catfish it was still an enjoyable place to relax for a couple of days :)

-:¦:-LAKE AWOONGA DRAWS SPECTATORS 28th & 29th Dec 2010-:¦:- Clip includes Boyne River Turich-Mann Bridge / Benaraby. (PART III)
Well this years ending left us with a few reminders. In 30 years, I have never witnessed such an amazing event. Awoonga Dam spillway flows after all our recent rains fills to its highest record which I believe it could peak to 46m, late 29th Dec. Property damage, floods, closed road & bridges downstream isolating some residents at Pikes Crossing, Benaraby. Clip includes a family of four escaping extensive flooding on O'Connor Rd near the Awoonga Dam turn off as they lost control of their four-wheel-drive as it was swept away by floodwaters, but thankfully rescued by residents.

Happy New Year To All. This year 2010 leaves us with a bang and quite a few memories. Lets hope Year 2011 brings crops galore after all the rain and families can rebuild their lives after this nations disaster.

The recent rains have caused this amazing scene. However, the weather report tells us that the river will not reach its peak until tomorrow. Should be interesting then !!
