Bacalar-The Most Beautiful Place to Swim in Mexico
Laguna Bacalar is without a doubt, the most beautiful body of water I've ever seen. But first, we visited Casa Cenote near Tulum, where we got to swim with a big ol' Alligator. We then drove 2 hours south to Bacalar and spent 4 amazing days playing in the crystal clear water. Food poisoning on Ali's birthday was a grande bummer, but she rallied and the next day we were back on the water enjoying paradise.

The Best Way To See Laguna Bacalar in Mexico
If you visit Laguna Bacalar you will want to take a boat tour around. It is an amazing place and very photogenic. Here is one tour we recommend because Kristal really cares about the lagoon and the conservation of it. She will not only show you around the lake and see the beauty but you will learn interesting features of it. This is a very affordable tour to check out if you visit Bacalar. For more information see our website here:
LAGUNA BACALAR. Lake of Seven Colors in Mexico.
We spend a day in one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen, Laguna Bacalar in Quintana Roo, Mexico! Bacalar is located in the south of Mexico, close to Belize. Bacalar is relatively small and we spend the day biking around the town. We visit a hotel on the Lake called Hotel Aluxes to have lunch and spend some time on their beautiful lake front. We fly our DJI Spark over the Lake of Seven Colors to check out the view from above. We then return to town via our bikes to have some coffee and beer and then do a short tour of our hotel, Toto Blue.

Laguna de Bacalar is also known as the “Lake of Seven Colors” or “Lagoon of Seven Colors,” and for good reason.
The crystal clear waters and white sandy bottom of the lake cause the water color to morph into varying shades of turquoise, blue, and deep indigo throughout the day and in different depths.
This 60-kilometer lagoon (which is often called a lake, but is actually a series of waterways eventually leading to the ocean) once offered passage for pirates and traders seeking their treasure in the form of precious Campeche wood.
These days, the lagoon is more likely to see sunbathers and kayakers. It contains several sizable cenotes — excellent swimming holes — as well as stromatolites, the world’s oldest known fossils. Still, despite its location only four hours south of Cancun, tourists remain sparse.
The Fort of San Felipe was built in 1733 under the order of don Antonio de Figueroa y Silva, field marshal of Yucatan, to protect the Bacalar population from the frequent attacks by pirates from the Caribbean and to defend the region from harassment from the traders in Campeche wood. In the second half of the 19th century, during the so-called War of the Castes, the fortress once again became the scene of skirmishes for the possession of the fortress. It has recently been restored and sits looking over Lake Bacalar in the center of town.
Bacalar is simply a heavenly town that will make you fall in love with its small fishermen’s houses, and which is home to a beautiful turquoise lake and the Uchben Kah Ecotourism Park, where you can swim, snorkel, scuba dive and go out on a boat.
Come to live a unique experience in one of Mexico's Pueblos mágicos; visit Bacalar.

Best Places to Eat in LAGUNA BACALAR [Lake of Seven Colors] MEXICO 2019
Laguna Bacalar, known as the Lake of Seven Colors, is a real adventure traveler's paradise. And today I'll tell you where are the best places to eat in Laguna Bacalar.
If you are looking for a boat tour video or the Mayan ruins, they will come soon in separate videos. This one is all about the food. I'll give you a few recommendations on where to eat, and one place to avoid.
Most restaurants can be found on the streets flanking the main square. This is where we had our first dinner at Savora Bakhalal. I great ceviche there and enjoyed the rooftop patio.
We had a cute little home-style restaurant across from our Airbnb and I got my breakfasts here. Salbutes, tacos, empanadas, and the such are made fresh in front of you at Antojitos Venus Y Cuartos.
Check out Natasha's channel here
Lunch on the water at Kai Pez was amazing as well. They have a perfect location and a great quay you can swim off from.
My one non-recommendation was Pues Si. The octopus was good but the rest was basic, the tomato sauce was straight out of a can, my salad had bugs in it. The pasta dish was basic too.

A complete guide to Bacalar can be found here:
In today's travel Mexico video we explore the beautiful Pueblo Mágico of Bacalar, Quintana Roo. What makes Bacalar so magical is without a doubt its beautiful lagoon of 7 colors. It is called the lagoon of 7 colors not because it has 7 different colors of water, but because you will find at least 7 different shades of blue water in the lagoon. The lagoon has depths of water up to 180 meters!! In this video we do one of the top things to do in Bacalar- we take a boat tour around the lagoon! We visited 3 different cenotes, the pirate canal, and bird island. If you are looking for one of the best things to do in Bacalar- look no further than booking a boat tour of the lagoon! There are many options- whether on a boat, jet ski, kayak, or paddle board there are many ways to experience the beautiful crystal clear water of Bacalar, Quintana Roo.

Camping trip in Mexico at Lake Bacalar (Lake Of Seven Colors)
We went camping in Mexico at Lake Bacalar in Quintana Roo. We stayed in tents at a hostel. This lake is amazing. I hope you enjoy a peak into our experience and share some of the fun.
LAGUNA BACALAR Boat Tour [Lake of Seven Colors] Mexico 2019
Looking for paradise on earth, without the heavy tourist footprint? Laguna Bacalar should top your list. It's no wonder why they call it Lake of Seven Colors!
Located in the state of Quintana Roo, crystal clear Laguna Bacalar, or Lake of Seven Colors, is approximately 42 km long and under 2 km at its widest.
The Laguna Bacalar is fed by underground rivers and this creates sinkholes when the limestone bedrock collapses, these are called cenotes. The Yucatan peninsula is famous for its cenotes and huge subterranean water tunnel system.
The Laguna Bacalar is best explored by kayak or by going on a boat tour. If you are lucky, the tour will give you an opportunity to dive in a cenote so you can explore the floor of the lake.
So why do we see these seven colors in the first place? Those collapsed limestone bedrocks I mentioned earlier disintegrate and the limestone dust covers the bottom of the lake. This white sand shows of various shades of blue depending on the depth at any given spot on the lake.
Laguna Bacalar truly is a secret paradise not know by many. The remote location has kept it resort free and the only tourists that come are backpackers and adventure travelers. You can get here by flying into Chetumal airport and then take a taxi to the town of Bacalar.
Hostels, cheap hotels, and Airbnb abound. All beaches are private and have a small entrance fee unless you are one of the lucky few to own a private villa on the lake shore.
This is Mayan country and as Miguel explained the Mayan culture is still strong in this part of Mexico. If you get tired of rest, relaxation, and frolicking in the gorgeous blue waters, there are a few small Mayan ruins to explore in the nearby countryside.
We are budget travelers after all so let's get a free spa treatment by slathering our bodies with the mineral-rich clay like sand. Just apply everywhere, let it dry and rinse off. So fun you can almost ignore the sulfur scent in the air. And it really did make the skin feel softer to the touch.
Make sure to explore the cement pirate ship before heading back to the boat. We booked our tour at the Kai Pez restaurant in town. The food here was really good, check out our meal here in my where to eat in Bacalar video linked above.
Laguna Bacalar is my closest experience to a tropical paradise on earth. It is rare to find such a gorgeous off the beaten path destination that's pretty much untouched by heavy tourism. Hopefully, it will stay that way for years to come.

Laguna Bacalar: Why You Can't Miss Mexico's Enchanting Lake of Seven Colors
Believe it or not, Mexico's best water isn't on an ocean. Lake Bacalar, or Mexico's Lake of Seven Colors, has stunningly clear and blue water and a white sandy bottom.
And, even though it is only four hours south of Cancun, it doesn't get nearly the same amount of tourists as other places on the Mayan Riviera.
So if you are looking for a unique place to visit in Mexico for your next trip to the Yucatan, check out this video so see why you should put Lake Bacalar on your list!
