The crystal clear springs of Balmorhea State Park are an oasis in the west Texas desert. Located in the foothills of the Davis Mountains, Balmorhea offers visitors the unique opportunity to swim and snorkle in a natural spring-fed pool. The 1930s-era Spanish-style motel and bathhouse lend the park an old fashioned charm. For more information, visit LifesBetterOutside.org

I am a single woman starting the process of becoming a full time RVer in a truck camper. Reducing my material items, becoming a minimalist. This is my journey of that process along with my travels as a solo woman RVer. It is a challenge to reduce all material possessions in a 2500 square foot house to moving into a tiny home, that being a tiny house on wheels. I travel in a 2007 S&S Montana Ponderosa truck camper. My truck is a Dodge RAM dually.

Scuba Diving Balmorhea State Park, Balmorhea Texas 05/2014
Short video of our diving at Balmorhea State Park in Balmorhea Texas, May of 2014. Spring fed, 74 degree water temp, deepest point is about 20 feet. Visibility was probably 70 feet and I would guess greater had it not been a real busy weekend for swimmers and divers. In this particular video I was able to capture the spring bubbling our of the sands. Awesome fun !!

Episode 24: Led Astray by Google at Balmorhea Lake, TX
We stop in west Texas for a couple of nights at Balmorhea Lake. Note: this is not the state park. We had found this place on one of the campground review sites, which stated Balmorhea Lake had free camping. Not only did we have an incredibly difficult time finding the camping area (after being led astray by both Google Maps and our Rand McNally GPS), but once we arrived we learned we had to pay for dry camping.
Although the area surrounding the lake is rather run down, the views of the lake were beautiful and the sunsets were amazing. While we wouldn't go out of our way to visit this area again, if we found ourselves nearby and needed a place to stop for the night, we'd be comfortable going back.
Our boondocking site was surrounded by water on three sides, making our little peninsula quiet and secluded. We entertained ourselves on our one day there by going for a little hike around the lake. Along the way we encountered a bull, a turtle, lots of fish and two adorable kids out fishing.
Join us for a look at one of our not-so-favorite places to camp.

July 12, 2014 Balmorhea Texas
For a long time we have been wanting to take another family trip like we use to when my brother and I was kids our-self's. We thought it would be nice to get mom and the family on a old fashion family trip to the lake, It was a blessing to be able to spend time with my niece and to see her play around while we relaxed and had a great time. As grateful as it was we did not get much time due to the weather coming in from over the lake, and we still made the best of it. Mom was happy to be able to spend time with my brother and I, my sister-in-law also had a blessing day to spend time with us. Even though my brother got lost on the way to the lake, he also had a great time down by the lake. Since we all have our own life to live, we thought that it would be nice to get away from everyday life, just to be able to relax and have time off from what we had to do and what we needed to do. I posted a few pics up in the video of our time at the lake, and got some back in my face book page as will. My brother and I decided that each year since we are blessed to have our mother around that we thought we would make time out of our everyday life to take a new trip each year to some place new so that we can spend time with each other as a family, We feel since mom been through a lot for us, that it would be a great and grateful idea to make as much time to make new family trips for her to spend time with us like we use to when we was kids.

When we heard about Balmorhea State Park from one of our scuba instructors Cory we knew we had to go. The diving was super easy and relaxing and perfect for divers with only a little experience. When we dove here we only had logged 09 dives (including our certification dives). We can't wait to go back! We hope you enjoyed the video! Let us know if you dive and if so, what is your favorite place to go? Thank you for watching and subscribing!
As of now in Aug 2018 the park is closed for repairs. Check the state park website for information:
