Slovenia's Secret Lake | Triglav National Park Lake Bohinj + Lake Bled
We were surprised to know that Lake Bled is not the only beautiful lake in the Julian Alps region. The Triglav National Park is also home to Lake Bohinj, the biggest lake in Slovenia.
We visit the stunning lake Bled with Endless Adventure and tried the famous Bled cake at Bled Castle and it is up there with the best deserts, well worth the entrance fee to eat this delicacy.

SLOVENIA 4K | LAKE BOHINJ | LAKE BLED | SOČA VALLEY
Lake Bohinj covering 318 hectares , is the largest permanent lake in Slovenia. It is located within the Bohinj Valley of the Julian Alps, in the northwestern Upper Carniola region, and part of Triglav National Park.
The largest of the streams that flow into the lake, the Savica ('little Sava'),is fed from Črno jezero (Black Lake), the lowest-lying lake in the Triglav Lakes Valley. The outflow at the eastern end is the Jezernica creek which merges with the Mostnica to form the Sava Bohinjka, which in turn becomes the larger Sava River at the confluence with the Sava Dolinka. As found out already by Belsazar Hacquet in the 18th century, much more water leaves Lake Bohinj than enters it, which is explained with subterranean sources of water.
The clear waters are the habitat of brown trout, burbot, European chub, common minnow and Arctic char, eight genera of molluscs, as well as of numerous algae species. It is a popular day trippers' destination for swimming and other water sports. On the shore is a statue of the legendary Goldhorn (Zlatorog) chamois, whose story was perpetuated by the poet Rudolf Baumbach.

Lake Bled is a lake in the Julian Alps of the Upper Carniolan region of northwestern Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. The area is a tourist destination. The lake is 35 km from Ljubljana International Airport and 55 km from the capital city, Ljubljana.
The lake is of mixed glacial and tectonic origin. It is 2,120 m long and 1,380 m wide, with a maximum depth of 29.5 m and it has a small island. The lake lies in a picturesque environment, surrounded by mountains and forests. Medieval Bled Castle stands above the lake on the north shore. The Zaka Valley lies at the west end of the lake.

The Soča is a 138-kilometre long river that flows through western Slovenia 96 kilometres and northeastern Italy 43 kilometres.
An Alpine river in character, its source lies in the Trenta Valley in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, at an elevation of 876 metres. The river runs past the towns of Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin, Kanal ob Soči, Nova Gorica (where it is crossed by the Solkan Bridge), and Gorizia, entering the Adriatic Sea close to the town of Monfalcone. It has a nival-pluvial regime in its upper course and pluvial-nival in its lower course.
Due to its emerald-green water, the river is marketed as The Emerald Beauty. It is said to be one of the rare rivers in the world that retain such a colour throughout their length.

Bled and Bohinj lakes Vintgar gorge Slovenia HD
Situated at the edge of Triglav national park, lakes Bled and Bohinj with its fairy-tale Alpine scenery are true pearls of Slovenia. In the middle of the Bled lake is an island with a church, and on a cliff above the lake, old medieval castle.
Not a bit less beautiful is lake Bohinj, the largest permanent natural lake in Slovenia. Lake's crystal clear water is restored three times per year. The main tributary is Savica river.
Vintgar Gorge-1600 m long canyon (discovered in 1891) through which a Radovna river flows and makes its rapids and cascades. It is hard to describe, you have to see it to believe it. So see it in its breathtaking beauty in this film. Gorge ends with a Šum waterfall. Further through the wood and meadows and you will reach medieval St Catherine church.

Bohinj, Slovenia: The most beautiful place we've ever seen
We said goodbye to Piran and drove to the OTHER lake in Slovenia: Lake Bohinj, a lake so beautiful and intimate that we actually like it better than the more popular Lake Bled. After marvelling at its mirrorlike waters, we reluctantly drove back to Ljubljana just in time to catch Grandfather Frost wishing us a Happy New Year.

Two Days in Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, Slovenia
We spent two days in the mountains of Slovenia exploring the two most majestic lakes, Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj.
Lake Bohinj & Up Vogel Cable Car for the BEST Views
Lake Bohinj, Slovenia certainly has a different feel to Lake Bled. You won't find the lake shores lined with cafes, or a bunch of boatmen touting for business. Lake Bohinj is all about natural beauty and water sports. There's one panoramic boat trip from one end to the other (check the times, as they're not that regular).
The lake itself is beautiful, I got there around 9.30am to see the ribbons of fog slowly floating away.
Walk toward Ukranc to find the Vogel Cable Car which takes you up into the mountains for unforgettable views of the lake from above and the mountains (where the ski resort lives).

Exploring Lake Bohinj and Triglav National Park in Slovenia (Bohinjska Bistrica)
Lake Bohinj is the largest natural lake in Slovenia. Nested in the heart of the Julian Alps, this jewel is a precious natural resource and at the same time offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities.
Lake Bohinj is located in a glacial valley and it comprises almost 100 million cubic metres of water – according to an old Bohinj joke: no more than a bucket if it is large enough. The steeply descending lake basin is relatively smoothly shaped and has no shallow areas. In summer, the temperature of the water rises to 22 °C; in winter, the lake freezes sometimes. Water level rises 2 – 3 metres after heavy rainfall.
Lake water is restored three times per year. The main tributary is the Savica, and the main distributary is the Sava Bohinjka. More than a third of the water flows into the lake from the Karst springs under the lake surface along the northern shore. During heavy rainfall, the Karst waters gush out as the Govic spring on the Pršivec hillside.
Lake Bohinj is perfect for water activities all year round – from swimming, boat riding, wind surfing, kayaking or canoeing, fishing and diving in warmer months, to (sometimes) even ice skating in winter. Visitors can also take a wonderful tourist boat ride or simply go for a relaxing walk along the shore. If ice stating is an option, please be aware, that you can only skate and walk on ice at your own responsibility. We recommend you to be extremely cautious!
There is a walking trail around the entire perimeter of Lake Bohinj. This trail is flat and easy to walk. I walked a small portion of it and along the way I saw a lot of families hanging out on the slivers of beaches along the water’s edge.
???????? Lake Bohinj & Vogel Ski Center | Slovenia Trip Day 4
#slovenia #lakebled #ljubljana #bled #bohinj #vogel #winter #travel #wanderlust
Day 4 in Bohinj. We went to Vogel Ski Center and exploring the biggest lake in Slovenia, Lake Bohinj.
We took Mamut shuttle that cost us €96 (direct via highway) for return trip (only 3 of us.. so €32 per person still within our budget). If you manage to get more people to hop in, that will be much cheaper. And the cheapest way to go to Lake Bohinj I think is by public bus. But the journey will be a bit longer due to many stopping.
Fyi. Vogel Ski cable car fare: €20 per person
