Carlsbad, New Mexico - Brantley Lake State Park - Carlsbad Caverns - New Mexico State Park
Carlsbad, New Mexico - Brantley Lake State Park - Carlsbad Caverns - New Mexico State Park
In the second of their videos of New Mexico State Parks, the Two Tired Teachers visited Brantley Lake State Park, near Carlsbad. Brantley Lake is the closest state park to Carlsbad Caverns. It isn't really close since Brantley Lake State Park is north of Carlsbad and the caverns are south.
White City is the closest town to Carlsbad Caverns. White City does offer an RV park of sorts. It also had a Rode Way in with a small water park/swimming pool.
Carlsbad Caverns does not offer overnight camping, but you can tow up to the entrance and park your RV during your stay. The park has a kennel so that your dogs won't overheat.
The visitors center is fascinating. It has scenes showing how deep the caverns are. They are over a 1000 feet deep.
Until 1958 guano was mined in the caverns. The bat dung is used as a soil conditioner, a fungicide, and a fertilizer.
Two gift shops are in the visitors center. If you go see the bats, know that the road to the park is steep and winding.
Guadalupe Mountain National Park is another option for camping near Carlsbad Caverns. The park has no hook ups. It is about as far south of Carlsbad Caverns as Brantley Park State Park is to the north.
Be aware that if you go into the caverns through the natural entrance, it is a cave; it's slick; and it isn't always an easy path. If you have mobility problems, consider taking the elevator down. You are allowed to use a cane in the park, but you may not use hiking or walking sticks.

VanLife Brantley Lake State Park Carlsbad, New Mexico On the Road
Great lakeside camping! My name is Brian. I live on the road full time in my self built camper van. Join me on my adventures. In this video I leave my camp at Levelland RV Park (GPS: 33.553528, -102.374771). I head into New Mexico to find my next camp at Brantley Lake State Park(GPS: 32.563999, -104.380997). This is a great State Park that is actually between Artesia and Carlsbad New Mexico. It cost $8 a night for primitive camping. I enjoyed a lot of mountain bike rides as well as relaxing and enjoying the peaceful environment. I fixed up a big sandwich for lunch also! Not all of my meals are cooked on my camp stove. Thanks for watching!

Carlsbad Campground - Carlsbad NM
Here we are in the Chichuahuan desert. Hot. Dry. Very windy. I am never complaining about Florida humidity, again. At least it helps keep the dirt on the ground instead of in the air.
I misspoke the weekly rates for 30 amp sites. They are $273 a week, not $373.
If you are here to see the Caverns or are moseying on to Roswell, try to take in The Living Desert Museum and Park just a couple miles north of town.
Altho this campground does have wifi, they also clearly state that they limit your usage. Believe me, they do. I have been up at 4:00 am trying to upload, or even read the news, when you'd think no one else would by on it, and have gotten choked off or disconnected. Our Verizon hotspot works fine. So if you really need a good wifi connection, bring your own Verizon. My TMobile is worse, here, then the campground wifi.

Christmas Trip 2017 - Carlsbad, New Mexico KOA - RV Travel
This is the second stop on our 2017 Christmas Trip. Here we stayed at the KOA Campground in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
RV Travel Life | Canyon Lake, TX to Carlsbad, NM
In this episode we show you our road from Canyon Lake, TX to Carlsbad, NM. We weighed the RV (using a CAT scale) and found that we were a little overweight, so we ended up letting go of all of our fresh water in our tank.
We boondocked overnight in the Fort Stockton, Walmart, where we encountered a rather strange fellow. He was tent camping in the parking lot which we were not scared of, but it made us nervous he would get hit by a car.
Bullet is getting calmer every time we travel and we think the bedding and toy has helped out a lot!
While we were driving from Fort Stockton, TX to Carlsbad, NM Laura's bike fell off the roof of our truck. The fork of the bicycle where it locks into the thule bike rack on the roof twisted and completely detached itself. There was no evidence of any issues with the bike rack, just the fork itself. Since we have only had the bike since October, we are going to try to contact Cannondale and see if they can get us a new fork for the bike. This was a recall shortly before we left on this big adventure, but the bike shop we purchased from in Kansas City told us that they had already replaced the faulty part. We are not sure if this was part of that recall or not. It is a Cannondale Quick 4 2017 Women's, in turquoise.
We arrived in Carlsbad just in time to find an RV Park before the winds kicked up and warnings started being issued. We are so happy we left 1 day early or we would have been driving in the crazy winds.
Hey guys! We decided to leave a day early so we could possibly swing by Big Bend on the way out! Sorry it has been a couple days, our computer hard drive is getting upgraded and then we can finish the last Canyon Lake Video! We're hoping the hard drive is done by tonight. More videos coming soon!

New Mexico RV Trip | Carlsbad Cavern & White Sands
New Mexico RV Trip
Next up on the RV bucket list? A New Mexico RV Trip. We're headed to Carslbad Caves and White Sands National Monument.
Spending time crawling around in caves is Fin’s favorite thing in the world next to watching 4 episodes of Grey's Anatomy in a row.
This video is also our first BLM (Bureau of Land Management) boondocking experience. BLM is the hallmark by which RV boondockers judge other RV boondockers apparently. To be TRUE boondocker, you have to split your time between BLM, Walmart parking lots, and an occasional overnight at Cracker Barrel when you’re feeling particularly bougie.
The reality of boondocking in New Mexico is blowing winds, chewing on sand, and a RV full of red dust.

#83 Brantley Lake State Park Campgrounds - Carlsbad, NM
Brantley Lake State Campgrounds - Carlsbad, NM.
Carlsbad is now an oil Boomtown and it is hard to find a place to camp. Most of the rv parks are completely full with some charging as much as $1,300.00 per month to stay in a parking lot. Crazy, Right?
Well, we got lucky and found Brantley Lake State Park Campgrounds. Located on beautiful Brantley Lake, the campgrounds were awesome. They are reasonably priced and it is just a short drive back into Carlsbad. They have full hook-ups and clean rest rooms. There is wildlife everywhere out here so watch out for rattlesnakes and don't drive too fast as deer like to cross these roads.

Brantley Lake State Park Campground Carlsbad New Mexico NM
takes user submitted videos combined with professional editing to provide tent and RV campers with a first person view of a campground or RV park.
Brantley Lake State Park Campground outside of Carlsbad New Mexico offers 50+ RV and tent camping spaces with water and electric. A few sites have sewer. Located in a rural setting (desert) the campground is close to the lake. Multiple trails and dark night skies draw guests to this nice place to camp. About 20 miles from Carlsbad and another 20 miles (40 total) from Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
Picnic tables and fire rings at each site the park has paved roads and parking pads surrounded by natural desert landscape. Shade structures cover the picnic tables. Situated on a slight knoll the campground has excellent views of the sunset (and sunrise if you are an early bird). Speaking of birds the lake is a popular place to bird watch during migratory season.
There are no supplies, food or fuel at this location. Come prepared.

AOK RV Retreat in Carlsbad New Mexico offers full hookup RV sites in a newly opened RV park. Situated 5 miles east of downtown off US 62 the park features 50, 30, 20 amp electric boxes, sewer and water hookups. Packed gravel roads and sites the sites are very wide and large enough to handle any RV. Still under construction the location provides short and long term rates ($35 per night for short term).
Eventually the owners would like to have a Las Vegas, NV themed RV Park that brings a little touch of Las Vegas to Southwest, New Mexico.
Note the facility can be easy to miss. We recommend routing via the GPS coordinates rather than address. At night the entrance is very easy to miss as it is not well lit. Situated out in the plains the park is an affordable option for self contained RV campers looking to stay near Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

This is a brand new park as of September 2016. The park itself is already really awesome. At the time we were there, they were still working on landscaping. The buildings including bathrooms, office, and laundry were all immaculate. They have a dedicated dog area, with fencing. The WiFi signal is very good (as we are uploading this video with it currently). You can actually stream videos from Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix. The RV park is located 28 miles from Carlsbad National Park (actually one of the closest parks to Carlsbad National Park) and it is just on the edge of Carlsbad, NM. The RV Park is also 2.5 miles from Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park.

We recently stayed near Carlsbad Caverns National Park ????at a location we found on Campendium approximately 4 miles south of the National Park entrance.
GPS: 32.0885, -104.4321
Follow along as we take you with us on our Carlsbad Cavern trip and show you some of the sights. This is a must-see national park since it is so much different than your usually park setting. It is amazingly huge under there and seems to go on forever. Also, the trails above are a nice trip in themselves.
