CHIEMSEE, GERMANY - travel shorts
Chiemsee is a freshwater lake in Bavaria, Germany, between Rosenheim, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria. It is often called the Bavarian Sea. The rivers Tiroler Achen and Prien flow into the lake from the South; the river Alz, out towards the North. The Chiemsee is divided into the bigger, north section, in the northeast, called Weitsee, and the Inselsee, in the southwest.
The region around the Chiemsee is Chiemgau and is a famous recreation area.

Filmed in August 2002, Herrenchiemsee or the New Palace was one of Mad King Ludwig's three castles.
It was fashioned after Versaillies in France and was built between 1878 and 1885.
Ludwig stayed within the Palace for only a few days in September 1885 and after Ludwig's death by drowning the following year at the age of 40, all construction work was discontinued.

What an incredible place in Bavaria Germany. The Herrenchiemsee Palace is huge. The gardens are magnificent. The fountains are stunning. The entire place is very much worth going and seeing. It takes a boat ride to get there as it is on an island in Chiemsee lake. Plan your trip well as you don’t want to get stuck there for an hour or two waiting on the next boat to get you back to your car. = )

CHIEMSEE LAKE in BAVARIA GERMANY -- Workaway Germany // 068
After beginning my Workaway day in the garden, as usual, I set out to find the Chiemsee! Chiemsee is a large lake close to Hart, Germany, where I have been staying for my Workaway. I heard it was great, but I didn't expect it to be so perfect (ie. the rainbow rocks)!
It was a pleasant bike ride in Bavarian hills to get to the lake. Along the way I saw old Bavarian houses and beautiful German horses. I don't know how long it would take me to get used to having so many gorgeous horses everywhere!

Chiemsee is a freshwater lake in Bavaria, Germany, near Rosenheim. It is often called the Bavarian Sea. The rivers Tiroler Achen and Prien flow into the lake from the South; the river Alz, out towards the north.
Herrenchiemsee is a complex of royal buildings on Herreninsel, an island in the Chiemsee, Bavaria's largest lake, 60 km south east of Munich.
Bavaria 2019 - Journey to Herrenchiemsee
A Journey to the islands of Herrenchiemsee & Frauenchiemsee
in Lake Chiemsee, Bavaria, Germany
On Herrenchiemsee we visit Herrenchiemsee Palace, the extravagant palace of Ludwig II of Bavaria, built in 1873 as a copy of the French palace Versailles of King Louis XIV.
On Frauenchiemsee we visit a 200-year-old Benedictine Convent, 1000-year-old Linden Trees, and a fishing village.
This guided tour in July 2019 included going by train from Munich to Prien am Chiemsee, taking an old steam train on the Chiemsee-Bahn to Lake Chiemsee, then three boat rides. One boat to the island of Herrenchiemsee, then another boat to Frauenchiemsee, then finally the boat back to Prien am Chiemsee, where we took the Chiemsee-Bahn back to the regular train back to Munich.
A wonderful day of travel, adventure and history!
