CHISI ISLANDERS DEMAND BOAT AMBULANCE
Community members at Chisi Island in Zomba have demanded that government must provide Ambulances in form of a bicycle, Boat and vehicle. The members made their demand during a day long community awareness campaign on the right to development that was organized by WORLEC and YONECO with funding from TILITONSE FUND. The community members said they want a bicycle ambulance to be on the Island, a Boat at the dock and Vehicle Ambulance at Kachulu. They demanding that the vehicle ambulance must always be standby to provide services to patients especially women who frequently need such speedy service. WORLEC and YONECO are implementing a project in Zomba and Phalombe that is Enhancing Community Capacities to demand public services from their duty bearers. Chisi Island is ignored in service provision because of the lake.
YONECO is a local, non-political, non-profit, non-governmental organization that was formed in September 1997 to address the social injustice, human rights, child delinquency and reproductive health issues affecting youth, women and children.
