From Aramac to lake Dunn
A few grabs from a trip from Barcaldine to Lake Dunn. This footage is from the Northern side of Aramac, and the first scene with the wildflowers (The mauve bottlebrush shaped flowers called 'Mulla Mulla' are quite pretty, and in number after the recent rain) was filmed at 'the jump up', between Aramac and Lake Dunn. The rest is around lake Dunn itself. It is very low on water lately since a recent government allowed the damming off of its water sources!
Music is 'Narmarnwidmi' by the Indigenous band Narbalek band, from their album 'Munwurrk' (Bushfire)

Outback Adventure ! - Aramac
We continue our journey from Barcaldine to Aramac where we saw wild pigs, hundreds of emus, spectacular sunsets and lots more!
Aramac is a small town in Western Queensland, Australia, lying 68 kilometres north of Barcaldine, and 1,280 kilometres (800 mi) by road from the state capital, Brisbane. It is situated on Aramac Creek, which flows into the Thomson River 60 kilometres west of town.
The predominant industry is grazing. The town water for Aramac is supplied from two bores connecting into the Great Artesian Basin.

Spotted on the Barcaldine to Aramac Road in Central Western Queensland. Amazing animals which seem to be at home in the Queensland climate and terrain.
Outback Adventure ! - Muttaburra
Muttaburra is a small grazing town located in central western Queensland, Australia. The town is located on the banks of the Thomson River, approximately 84 kilometres north of Aramac. Muttaburra is located within the Barcaldine Region.
Muttaburra also has claims to fame, it was the discovery site of the Muttaburrasaurus, one of Australia's largest dinosaurs in 1963.The creature is believed to have been 12 metres long, 2 metres high from the hip and weighing 15 tonnes. There is a full size replica in the town.
Coast Bound - Musings, Tree of Knowledge, Fairbairn, Blackdown Tablelands
Due to soaring temperatures and high fire danger, its time to start returning to the coast, in search of a summer job. Having spent a few days in Jundah Outback Queensland, catching Red claw crays, I depart and drive East exploring the Ilfracombe outdoor museum.
The birthplace of the Australian Labor party, the Tree of Knowledge in Barcaldine is revealed, and I attempt to catch some more Red claw at Fairbairn Dam near Emerald. Arriving at Blackdown Tablelands National Park, I set up camp for the week to explore the frog life and enjoy the cool mountain temperatures.

The sun goes down on an icon, the Australian Windmill
These ubiquitous windmills were, once upon a time, a very common sight all over Australia. While there are still quite a few scattered around, they are becoming fewer by the day. But of those left, many have had the sails taken off or have just been let go to rack and ruin. Only a small percentage still perform the job they were built to perform, with most being replaced by solar powered pumps! Give it a decade or two, and these iconic machines will be sought after as collectors pieces! A sign of the times I guess!
This particular example is a Southern Cross, which was one of the two main manufacturers in Queensland, the other being Comet. It has a 21ft sail span (the way they were measured) and can still be seen working on the Aramac Road, about 15km from Barcaldine, QLD. Southern Cross had a three legged frame with a rectangular tail and this differentiates them from the Comet four legged frame with their wedge shaped tail. The main sizes for both brands varied from 16ft to a few massive 35ft examples. Smaller versions were made but not used greatly on pastoral properties in QLD.
This is in memory of my Grandfather who was a 'Windmill Expert' from before WWII up until the late 1960s. A simple title which entailed the skills of an engineer, a mechanic, a hydraulics engineer, a builder and an all round indispensable guy when it came to water supply maintenance in that, our near past! Well done 'Soup'!

Hughenden & Muttaburra, with Kids - A Fun Family Holiday in Outback Queensland
Hughenden, the final leg of the dinosaur trail is home to the Flinders Discovery Centre. It's here that you'll find Australia's famous Muttaburrasaurus before driving to Muttaburra to meet his twin replica.
Drive to Blackdowns Tableland NP October 2016
On the way to Blackdowns Tableland National Park, Queensland, I cut through from Miles through Taroom to Moura, then via Rolleston to Blackwater to see if I could see the escarpment from outside the park, seeing the 'wall' itself made up the actual boundary on the western side (according to the map anyhow). Quite a nice drive and, yes, I did get a beautiful view of the escarpment! Quite awesome.
