Storm Near Lake, Jabiru, Australia
I was down at the the lake in Jabiru on the edge of the Kakadu National Park where they’d just pulled a crocodile out a few days earlier, for sunset when the rain came down like there would be no tomorrow. It was only about 2 kms back to the hotel, but it must have taken me 15 minutes in the car to get there.
Once there I noticed a local lass who was stranded outside the hotel entrance, after heading out for a run just before the clouds burst. I took her home and heading back to the hotel, this time avoiding a tree that had fallen onto the road just minutes before.

During the 2006-2007 Jabiru had its biggest wet season cutting both highways. The Arnhem Highway was cut off for several weeks as the West Aligator bridge was severely damaged. Yellow Water Sunrise Cruise (Kakadu) - Lots of crocs!
A Yellow Water cruise is one of the best ways to experience the wetlands of Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory of Australia. The sunrise and sunset cruises are very popular. On this particular sunrise cruise there were about a dozen large crocodiles in the vicinity of, and feeding on, a dead buffalo. There was also abundant bird life including Jabirus, Brolgas, eagles, several types of kingfishers and even a Willy Wag Tails nest of chicks.
A fabulous experience if you get the opportunity.

Aboriginal archaeological discovery in Kakadu: rewrites the history of Australia.
Aboriginal archaeological discovery in Kakadu: rewrites the history of Australia.
Jabiru, Northern Territory: Aborigines have lived in Australia for a minimum of 65,000 years, a team of archaeologists has established 18,000 years longer than previously proven and at least 5000 years longer than most researchers had speculated Optimistic The discovery in the world, following years of archaeological excavations in a former camp under a sandstone shelter within the Jabiru mining contract in Kakadu, Northern Territory, drastically alters the known history of Africa's expedition by modern humans , To the leader of the international team of archaeologists, associate professor Chris Clarkson of the University of Queensland.
The findings, which are already causing intense interest in archaeological circles around the world, have been reviewed by internationally recognized scientists. Among the treasures of the discoveries are the oldest stone axles in the world with polished and sharp edges, which shows that the first Australians were among the most sophisticated tool makers of their time: no other culture had such axes during others 20,000 years.
The axes were perfectly preserved, placed against the back wall of the shelter as we dug deeper and deeper, Professor Clarkson to Fairfax Media. Traditional owners May Nango and Mark Djanjomerr with a stone ax found on site. Free Stock Image: Glenn Campbell. Traditional owners May Nango and Mark Djanjomerr with a stone ax found on site. There was one on the surface, another below which we date back to 10,000 years, and then there were some further down that were able to date from 35,000 to 40,000 years, and finally one to 65,000 years, surrounded by a lot of scales stone.
Cahill's Crossing - The World's Deadliest Crossing
Cahill’s Crossing is one of Australia’s most dangerous bodies of water in Australia. Each year, dozens of cars are washed into the river attempting to drive on Cahill Crossing. It’s an infamous feeding ground for saltwater crocodiles.
It’s a notorious for its croc infested waters and human misadventure. A crocodile once decapitated a man there in front of his friends.
Each year, dozens of drivers attempt to make it across the submerged crossing but instead end up being washed away into the croc infested waters. Others risk their lives by wading in the waters and fishing. Some even bring their children.
Crocodiles frequently congregate at the river crossing, to feast on swarms of fish that head upstream with changing tides. It is referred to as ‘floating fish behaviour’ and up to 40 crocodiles can be spotted together at the same time, a spectacle that attracts big crowds.
The area has become so well known, there are even viewing platforms to watch the crocodile feeding spectacle.
The crossing is popular with tourists and fishermen — despite warning signs that point out an extreme risk of saltwater crocodile attacks.
Yet some people continue to risk — and sometimes lose — their lives. Amateur fishermen, families including children and backpackers have been photographed standing in the water with crocodiles visibly nearby. World leading crocodile expert Grahame Webb says “that for every crocodile you can see, there are “10 you can’t”.
Thanks for watching

Kakadu National Park, Australia
