What three words would you use to describe the charming town of Weaverville, NC? A local business manager gives her answer.
WNC Communities:
Downtown Living in WNC:
Three words that come to mind. One of them is “Mayberry”, because it’s sort of like that small town feel, kids and young people, old people walking down the street. There’s like holiday parades and candlelight strolls, and it just feels really cute. I think “eclectic” too, just because there are the old timers who have been here a long time. This area is attracting new people all the time, and so it’s really sort of becoming a little melting pot of lots of great, wonderful people of all walks of life—artists, professionals, families, it’s really kind of everyone.
Then maybe just like, not one word but like, small little mountain town—super cute. Main Street has this very small town feel. It’s not very big. There’s tons of great restaurants and cafes and bakeries, little small town florists, cool art galleries, Mangum Pottery is here on Main Street. It's wonderful to walk around Lake Louise, play with the kids in the park, so there’s tons of fun things to do.
Not only do you have the small, quaint, beautiful little Main Street in small town of Weaverville, but then you have the whole surrounding areas. Reems Creek, for example, which is a great farming community, the Blue Ridge Parkway is just minutes away, there’s lots of beautiful, beautiful really country around here. You can drive 10 minutes away and you can be in the country.
Weaverville is just about 10 minutes north of Asheville, so very, very close to that city kind of feel, two hours from the big city of Charlotte. Then if you’re heading sort of north, Madison County is right there, Hot Springs Spa, all these beautiful little mountain oases with lots of really, really rural areas and beautiful countryside and farms. It definitely is a little slice of paradise in the mountains, that’s for sure.

Located just minutes from the popular city of Asheville, North Carolina, Lake Powhatan has something for everyone. The campground is convenient to a variety of cultural and natural attractions, including art and music venues, shopping and dining in Asheville, scenic driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway, numerous hiking trails and lakeside recreation.
The campground is situated in a heavily wooded area on the banks of Lake Powhatan in the Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina. The elevation is 2,200 feet. The surrounding land boasts mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls and slopes thickly forested with hardwoods and conifers.
Visitors have a number of different activities to choose from. Kids love the lake's sandy swimming beach and anglers enjoy the calm waters for trout fishing. The French Broad River, popular for fishing, is also nearby.
The forest is known for its hiking and mountain biking trails, several of which are located near the campground. Visitors wishing to learn more about the area can attend interpretive programs during the summer.
The shaded, private campsites are organized into four loops, all within walking distance of the lake. The facility provides picnic tables, tent pads, lantern posts and campfire rings with grills, in addition to restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. A few sites have full hookups. Campers can purchase ice and firewood.
Among the more popular nearby destinations are Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls, the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, an arboretum and the Biltmore Estate.

Father & Son Hiking: Waterfalls at Hanging Rock State Park, North Carolina
I had a day to hang out with my little son, who is not yet four years old. He loves trails, woods, and hiking with his Dad. So we headed down to Hanging Rock State Park, near Danbury in Stokes County, North Carolina. This is one of my favorite places to visit, with trails for all skill levels. Since I had my little son with me of course we stayed on the easier trails and he really wanted to see some waterfalls so we hiked to the Upper Cascades, then had our lunch. After lunch, we hiked a portion of the Indian Creek Trail to reach Hidden Falls and then Window Falls. I was so proud of my son, he hiked over 1.8 miles, including a few steep sections and a lot of steps, and he insisted on carrying his backpack and canteen the whole time. He did not want any help carrying his gear. I just had to carry him the last little stretch back to the truck, but still he cried when we were leaving because he wanted more trail. After he was back in his car seat, he was asleep before we could even leave the park! We both had a great time and we can't wait to get back out on another trail real soon....Thanks for watching!!!
