#ECOWATCH: Focus on Lake Magadi degradation
Lake Magadi is slowly but steadily diminishing. The ones white solid lake is quickly turning brown with impurities thanks to massive siltation taking place on the lake. The state of affair is worrying the County Government of Kajiado, the community and Tata Chemical Magadi Limited the company that mines soda ash from the lake. The situation has been attributed to the depletion of Mau forest and destruction of vegetation on the Loita plains. Over 14 kilometers square of the lake is currently under silt with degradation upstream continuing unabated. By Judith Akolo.
