Sweet Lombardy - Italy
See the best accommodation Lombardy (Italian: Lombardia Italian pronunciation: [lombarˈdiːa], Western Lombard: Lumbardìa, Eastern Lombard: Lombardia) is one of the 20 regions of Italy. The capital is Milan. One-sixth of Italy's population lives in Lombardy and about one fifth of Italy's GDP is produced in this region, making it the most populous and richest region in the country.[1] Major tourist destinations in the region include the historic, cultural and artistic cities of Milan (which is Italy's second top tourist destination),[2] Brescia, Mantua, Pavia, Cremona and Bergamo, and the lakes Garda, Como, Maggiore and Iseo.
The official language, as in the rest of Italy, is Italian. The traditional local languages are the various dialects of Lombard (Western Lombard and Eastern Lombard), as well as some dialects of Emilian, spoken in some parts of the provinces of Mantua, Pavia and Cremona. These are not widely spoken due to intense immigration from other parts of Italy whose local dialects were not intelligible with Italian.

Geography
A view of Valtellina.
Lombardy is bordered by Switzerland (north: Canton Ticino and Canton Graubünden) and by the Italian regions of Emilia-Romagna (south), Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and Veneto (east), and Piedmont (west). Three distinct natural zones can be fairly easily distinguished in the Lombardy region: mountains, hills and plains - the latter being divided in Alta (high plains) and Bassa (low plains).
The most important mountainous area is an Alpine zone including the Lepontine and Rhaetian Alps, (Piz Zupo, 3,996 m), the Bergamo Alps, the Ortles and Adamello massifs; it is followed by an Alpine foothills zone Prealpi, which include the main peaks are the Grigna Group (2,410 m), Resegone (1,875 m) and Presolana (2,521 m). The great Lombard lakes, all of glacial origin, lie in this zone. From west to east these are Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano (only a small part is Italian), Lake Como, Lake Iseo, Lake Idro, then Lake Garda, the largest in Italy. South of the Alps lie the hills characterized by a succession of low heights of morainic origin, formed during the last Ice Age and small barely fertile plateaux, with typical heaths and conifer woods. A minor mountainous area lies south of the Po, in the Appennines range.
Bellagio, on the shores of Lake Como.
The plains of Lombardy, formed from alluvial deposits, can be divided into the Alta - an upper, permeable ground zone in the north and a lower zone characterized - the Bassa - by the so-called line of fontanili (the spring waters rising on impermeable ground). Anomalous compared with the three distinctions already made is the small region of the Oltrepò Pavese, formed by the Apennine foothills beyond the Po River. A large number of rivers, all direct or indirect tributaries of the Po, cross the plains of Lombardy. Major rivers, flowing west to east, are the Ticino, the outlet of Lake Maggiore, the Olona, the Lambro, the Adda, outlet of Lake Como, the Mincio, outlet of Lake Garda, and the Oglio, the Lake Iseo outflow. There is a wide network of canals for irrigation purposes. In the plains, intensively cultivated for centuries, little of the original environment remains. The rare elm, alder, sycamore, poplar, willow and hornbeam woods and heaths are covered now by several protected areas. In the area of the great Alpine foothills lakes, however, grow olive trees, cypresses and larches, as well as varieties of subtropical flora such as magnolias, azaleas, acacias, etc. The mountains area is characterized by the typical vegetation of the whole range of the Italian Alps. At a lower levels (up to approximately 1,100 m) oak woods or broadleafed trees grow; on the mountain slopes (up to 2,000--2,200 m) beech trees grow at the lowest limits, with conifer woods higher up. Shrubs such as rhododendron, dwarf pine and juniper are native to the summital zone (beyond 2,200 m).
A view of Lake Maggiore.
The climate of this region is continental, though with variations depending on altitude or the presence of inland waters. The continental nature of the climate is more accentuated on the plains, with high annual temperature changes (at Milan an average January temperature is 1.5 °C and 24 °C in July), and thick fog between October and February. The Alpine foothills lakes exercise a mitigating influence, permitting the cultivation of typically Mediterranean produce (olives, citrus fruit). In the Alpine zone, the valley floor is relatively mild in contrast with the colder higher areas (Bormio, 1,225 m, --1.4 °C average in January, 17.3 °C in July). Precipitations are more frequent in the Prealpine zone (up to 1,500--2,000 mm annually) than on the plains and Alpine zones (600 mm to 850 mm annually). The numerous species of endemic flora (the Lombard native species), typical mainly of the Lake Como area, include some kinds of
Lake Maggiore - Italy
Lake Maggiore is the most westerly of the three large prealpine lakes of Italy and the second largest after Lake Garda. It lies approximately at 45°57′N 8°38′E / 45.95°N 8.633°E / 45.95; 8.633.
Santa Caterina del Sasso in Leggiuno's city.
It has a surface area of about 213 km², a maximum length of 54 km and, at its widest, is 12 km. The lake basin has tectonic-glacial origins and its volume is 37 km³.
Its main tributaries are the Ticino, the Maggia, the Toce (by which it receives the outflow of Lake Orta) and the Tresa (which is the sole emissary of Lake Lugano). The rivers Verzasca, Giona, and Cannobino also flow into the lake. Its outlet is the Ticino which, in turn, joins the river Po just south-east of Pavia.
The lakes jagged banks are surrounded by the Prealps of Piedmont and Lombardy. The western bank is in Piedmont (provinces of Novara and Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) and the eastern in Lombardy (province of Varese), whereas the most northerly section extends thirteen kilometres into Switzerland, where it constitutes the lowest point above sea-level in that entire country.
The climate is mild in both summer and winter, producing Mediterranean vegetation, with beautiful gardens growing rare and exotic plants. Well-known gardens include those of the Isola Madre, Isola Bella and the Isole di Brissago, that of the Villa Taranto in Verbania, and the Alpinia botanical garden above Stresa. ( source Wikipedia )

An Italian Lake | The Lago Maggiore | Lake Maggiore and the Islands
A 6K drone video (4K Ultra High Definition) of the Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore) in the North of Italy, on the Piedmont side.
Amazing views of the popular Borromean Islands, such as Isola Bella (Bella Island) and the Isola dei Pescatori (Fisher's Island), right next to the gorgeous villas surrounding the town of Stresa, a popular tourist destination.
Isola bella Gardens are regarded as some of the most diverse and fascinating in Italy, an example of Italianate baroque garden, which is a heaven where you can see statues and architectural decors set amidst the perfect green geometry of botanical treasures. Many trusted and capable gardeners trim, fertilize and experiment, preserving this place of wonders from the passage of time. A two-hundred-years-old camphor tree welcomes you at the garden's entrance. Crossing the gate, you will experience the breath-taking panorama of the Amphitheater in the middle of the island. This Italian garden with a baroque taste spreads on parterres and terraces placed at different heights and sprinkled with statues, obelisks, ageless stone stairs and balustrades. This results in an impressive view, displaying the power and magnificence of the noble house.
Also featuring the Lombardy side near Laveno Mombello and Cerro and some of the villas, mostly English from the end of the 19th century.

LAVENO MOMBELLO - Lake Maggiore - ITALY
This small port city I really liked - I felt that I was on the lakeside I walk all day and enjoy a beautiful view of lake and mountains - a refreshing breathe moist air port. The streets of this city, I felt fantastic. I walked in the shade of maples and I watched the sun-flooded houses with huge green hills in the background. Everything was extremely clean and colorful - and the air smelled really.

Laveno-Mombello (Laven Mumbèl Varese dialect) is an Italian town of 9,053 inhabitants of the province of Varese in Lombardy. The town, located on the shores of Lake Maggiore, was born in 1928 abolished the union of municipalities of Laveno Mombello Cerro Lago Maggiore and Lago Maggiore (1757 to 1809, which is called Cerro with Ceresolo).
Bordered to the north Ghiffa (VB), north-east Castelveccana Cittiglio with east, south-east Caravate, to the south and Leggiuno Sangiano, south-west Stresa (VB) and west Verbania (VB ).
It is one of the largest ports in the lake over the marina, there is a landing, from which year-round ferries cars for Verbania-Intra.
The village center is located in a large natural bay, in front of Verbania-Intra. In the extreme north and south of the bay there are two forts. On the hill north is the great Garibaldi, surrounded by a park.
In the east, just above the village, is the imposing Mount Sasso del Ferro. Using a cestovia you get to the top of the mountain, which offers a panorama that sweeps over the lake and the Alps, until arriving in Milan.

Borromean Islands, Lake Maggiore, Travel In Northern Italy
A cruise on Lake Maggiore, to the Borromean Islands, allows us to explore 3 very different places....

Isola dei Pescatori (fisherman's island) remains an actual working village, (with a few extra tourists).
Isola Madre, largest of the islands, is most famous for it's English style gardens.
Lake Como in Lombardy, Italy's Natural Beauty
Lake Como is situated in Como province in Lombardy, Northern Italy. It is part of the Italian Lake District. Popular with visitors for well over 100 years for its combination of fresh air, water, mountains and good weather, it's still worth a visit.
The Lake is shaped rather like an inverted 'Y', with two 'legs' starting at Como in the South-West and Lecco in the South-East, which join together half way up and the lake continues up to Colico in the North. The first few kilometres of the 'legs' at the southern end of the lake are relatively flat, but Lake Como becomes more mountainous as you head northwards into the Alps. Some of the nearby peaks go slightly above the tree-line so the views are really impressive. In the winter, there is skiing in the nearby valleys.
The area around Lake Como, or Lago di Como in Italian, is pretty characteristic. It has a kind of flair and sense of history that tends to impress its visitors in a sense deeper than only from a touristic point of view. It has been appreciated for its beauty and uniqueness for ages, and even as early as the Roman Times. Its atmosphere and natural surroundings have been the inspiration for an important part of the creation of Naboo, in the Star Wars movies.
Lake Como has been a popular retreat for aristocrats and wealthy people since Roman times, and a very popular tourist attraction with many artistic and cultural gems. It has many villas and palaces. Many famous people have or have had homes on the shores of Lake Como, such as Madonna, George Clooney, Ronaldinho and Sylvester Stallone. Lake Como is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe.
