Hell Hollow Wilderness Area - Lake Metroparks - Leroy Township, Ohio
This is my 7th in a series of videos I will be posting of the Lake Metroparks I will be visiting that are scattered around Lake County, Ohio here were I live.
Hell Hollow was quite a large park and had a nice hiking trail. To get to the bottom, where the river views are was quite the trek down the 262 stairs going back and forth along the side of the cliff. It wasn't bad going down but the hike back up was a great workout. It isn't for everyone lets just say that...
Hell Hollow Wilderness Area has a high cliff top with a loop trail and 262 timber steps that provide a dramatic descent to the creek valley. The more than 100-foot-deep ravine was carved thousands of years ago by Paine Creek after glaciers retreated from Ohio. This park offers impressive views of the 360 million year-old Chagrin Shale cliff above a deep river valley.

Lake Metroparks Fairport Harbor Beach Breakwall Swim Event
This short video features Cleveland Ohio Realtor Darren Burke from Launch Sales Team highlighting a Breakwall Open Water Swim event. It is free of cost and is held every Tuesday morning at 7:30a.m. during July and August at Fairport Harbor Beach, the Lake Metroparks offers a guided swim (followed by kayakers, stand-up paddleboards and a jetski with a safety sled). The swim is just under a 1/2 mile each way and draws a varied crowd. While not a beginners swimming event, there are swimmers of all ages as well as some college swimmers from Lake Erie College and some local triathlon swimmers who use the event as part of their training.
After the swim, a regular following of volunteers cook breakfast and have coffee and fellowship before heading off to work in the morning ($5.00 annual donation for the whole summer appreciated).
Fairport Harbor Beash is about 40 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio on Lake Erie. Lake Erie is the 13th largest body of water in the world and in this protected breakwall portion of the beach, makes for smooth water and fantastic open water swimming.
Fairport Harbor Beach opens at 9:30 am during the summer and is free for Fairport Harbor residents and $2.00 for residents of Lake County. During the summer season, Fairport Harbor beach offers kayak, paddleboard and windsurf rentals as well.
Darren Burke's goal is to highlight some of the fantastic fun opportunities around Cleveland Ohio and promote this great city to the World. If you are moving to Cleveland Ohio or any of its suburbs, Darren can be a great resource for all sides of the city...and if you are moving to an area not in the Launch Sales Team market area...Darren will gladly refer you to a Realtor who will assist you and your family with your move to Cleveland area.

Indian Point Park - Lake Metroparks - Leroy Township, Ohio
This is my 6th in a series of videos I will be posting of the Lake Metroparks I will be visiting that are scattered around Lake County, Ohio here were I live.
Indian Point Park is very large and with lots of Nature Trails to walk on and beautiful scenery everywhere you look. It was a great day when we went there and I could of stayed there all day long!
Here is some more info on the park along with a couple links to click on if you want to check out more on the park.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service, Indian Point has one of the earliest architectural works in this part of Ohio.
A tribe from the Whittlesey Culture lived here; a Whittlesey structure was built on the 100-foot ridge between Paine Creek and the Grand River. Two parallel mounds of their earthworks can be seen.
The Whittelsey were an early people who lived from 900 AD to 1650 AD in stockade villages on high bluffs overlooking rivers and lakes. Because they had no contact with Europeans, the name of their tribe is unknown. The culture is named after the archaeologist who discovered the tribe.
Charles Lyman bought several acres at the Point in 1901. He had camped here often. In the years before World War I, he used the area as a military camp for high school boys. More than 150 youngsters attended Lyman's Camp Wissolohican during its seven-year period of existence. Lyman began carving the names of campers into a Totem Stone, which can be seen along the trail near the point. Later, the point became a Finnish camp, Kaleva Lodge. During this time, a stone hut was built and used as a sauna, intact until the 1970s, when the park system dismantled it. The property was purchased from John Phelps in 1964. A plaque was erected here, in honor of James and Edna Phelps, his parents. (In 1802, part of the property had been deeded to his ancestors by the Connecticut Land Company.)

Mooreland Mansion, built in 1898 as the summer home for the family of transportation magnate Edward Moore, has been restored and is part of Lakeland Community College as an elegant wedding and meeting venue.
When Edward Moore had his Mooreland mansion built in 1898, it was his summer country home.
Designed by Edward Oviatt in neo-classical style and surrounded by more than 1,300 acres, including a working farm, the 44-room, 20,000-square-foot home allowed Moore's seven-member family to escape the heat of Cleveland in summer. He and his wife, Louise Chamberlain Moore, had five children: Margaret, Franklyn, Kathryn, Edward Jr. and Elizabeth.
The home was enlarged in 1906 by architect Milton Dyer, who later designed Cleveland City Hall. Landscape architect A. Donald Gray designed the layout of the first in-ground swimming pool in Lake County, fountains, rose gardens and a nine-hole golf course.
There also was a petting zoo area for the children, a tennis court and two orchards. Water for the swimming pool was pumped up from the Chagrin River.
