Lake Monger is a large urban wetland on the Swan Coastal Plain in suburban Perth, Western Australia nestled between the suburbs of Leederville, Wembley and Glendalough. Less than five kilometres from the city of Perth and situated alongside the Mitchell Freeway, it runs approximately north-west to south-east towards the Swan River and consists of 70 hectares of mainly open shallow water with an island of 1.3 hectares in the south-west corner. The 110 hectares of lake and the surrounding parklands are known as the Lake Monger Reserve.
The lake is presently used extensively for recreation as well as being a major tourist attraction with up to 12,000 visitors per week (Middle, 1988). Activities include bird watching and exercise.
A 3.5 km paved walking/cycling track encircles the lake which takes about 30 minutes to traverse by foot. Ample car parking, playground equipment and barbecue facilities are also provided.

Lake Monger
Lake Monger is a large urban wetland nestled between the suburbs of Leederville, Wembley and Glendalough in Perth , Western Australia.
Lake Monger was originally part of a series of freshwater wetlands known as the Great Lake District. The Noongar people called the area Keiermulu meaning the home camp . Early European settlers called it the Triangle Lake before it became known as Lake Monger in 1832.
The wetland is home to a variety of birds, including black swans, blue-bill ducks, Ibis, Yellow-billed Spoonbill and the fish seeking pelicans.
In summertime it isn't unusual to see long neck tortoises sauntering around the edges of the lake.

Lake Monger is a lovely place to stroll around despite being in the heart of Perth and suburbia. You can see lots of wonderful wildlife like Black Swans, ducks and parrots.
It is very easy to get to, simply exit the Mitchell Freeway at Vincent Street and follow the signs. Plenty of parking space in shaded areas.

Lake Monger Walk
waterbirds, other city birds and spiders around Lake Monger - an inner-city wetland in Perth, Western Australia. There are often other birds around this park that weren't there at that time - pelicans, white cockatoos, gallahs, ibis, swallows. (I'll try and film them another day). And some birds and creatures that were there but too fast for me to focus on camera - like noisy honeyeater wattle birds and long-necked turtles, and some so common I forgot to film - crows!
