We are going out of Vienna and are travelling to Lake Neusiedl, that is about an hour south of Vienna in Austria.

Lake Neusiedl (German: Neusiedler See) or Fertő is the second largest Endorheic lake in Central Europe, straddling the Austrian--Hungarian border. The lake covers 315 km², of which 240 km² is on the Austrian side and 75 km² on the Hungarian side. The lake's drainage basin has an area of about 1,120 km². From north to south, the lake is about 36 km long, and it is between 6 km and 12 km wide from east to west. On average, the lake's surface is 115.45 m above the Adriatic Sea and the lake is no more than 1.8 m deep.

On the western shore of Lake Neusiedl are a number of small towns, such as winches and Purbach which underline the ambiance of its excellent wine with its picturesque Kellergassen, the wine-cellar-lined lanes .The city of Rust is featured in a separate video on this channel.
Mörbisch is regarded as the cultural center on Lake Neusiedl. Especially famous are the operetta performances on the floating stage. Equipped with one of the world's most advanced sound systems, including the acoustic method Bregenz directional hearing, it allows the spectator the visual as well as the acoustic localization of the actor.

Der Neusiedler See (ungar. Fertő-tó, fertő bedeutet wörtlich „Sumpf) ist wie der Plattensee einer der wenigen Steppenseen in Europa. The Lake Neusiedl is the second largest step lake in Central Europe, shared between Austria and Hungary
8000 years ago the area around the lake was already populated. Center of the region is Neusiedl am See. In the 13th Century it was destroyed by the Mongols and later by the Turks and Kurucs.
The great lake shore and a sail centre are located in the middle of a reed zone. Additional schools for Kite and windsurfing attract a lot of tourists every year. The Lake Neusiedl is part of the UNESCO world heritage.

Der Neusiedler See ist der zweitgrößte Steppensee in Europa und gehört sowohl zu Österreich als auch zu Ungarn.
Die Umgebung des Sees ist seit ca. 8000 Jahren besiedelt. Zentrum der Region ist Neusiedl am See. Bereits im 13. Jahrhundert wurde es von den Mongolen, später von den Türken und Kuruzzen zerstört.
Mitten im Schilfgürtel liegen ein großes Strandbad und ein Segelzentrum. Zusätzliche Schulen für Kite- und Windsurfen bilden den Mittelpunkt für den Tourismus. Der Neusiedler See ist Teil des UNESCO Welterbes.

On the border that lies between Austria and Hungary is a unique and natural space, the Neusiedler See, that is located within a region that has much to offer. In 1954 the first biological station was established in the reed zone of the Neusiedler See. Today its large variety of natural wonders not only fascinates scientists but also attracts visitors from all over the world.A few kilometres south east of the lake, on the Hungarian side, is the sleepy village of Fertöd whose name originated from the lake’s Hungarian name. Although Fertöd contains some beautiful architecture, its main attraction lies outside the village. The Rococo castle of the former Hungarian prince, Esterhazy. was first built as a modest hunting lodge. However, inspired by a visit to Versailles in 1764, Prince Nikolaus ordered that the complex be completely rebuilt and almost fifty years passed until construction work of the new residence was completed. On the Austrian side of the lake, Mörbisch am See dates back to the fifth century B.C. Various archaeological finds show that both Celts and Romans settled in the area. One of the region’s many fascinating villages, Oggau became known as Austria’s oldest red wine village after drinking bowls from Roman times that contained traces of red wine were excavated. The beauty of the landscape, the incredible variety of flora and fauna, and the fascinating history of its towns and villages, all these factors leave an indelible impression of Austria’s Neusiedler See.
