Fall Colors at Ferne Clyffe State Park Lake Loop in Southern Illinois
Ferne Clyffe State Park Lake Loop in Southern Illinois is a premiere spot for seeing the colors of fall during this time of the year. Aside from the lake loop at Ferne Clyffe State Park, there are numerous more trails with waterfalls and scenic overlooks making this state park one of the best state parks in southern Illinois. Enjoy this video and please give it a share!
For directions and full information about Ferne Clyffe State Park, please see my blog post about it at:
1. How long is the Lake Loop? Less than a half of a mile and it is a full loop trail without any out and back requirements.
2. Is the Lake Loop a rugged hike? Semi-Rugged and that is only because during higher waters, there are a few creeks that you have to cross. But if the water is down, the hike is significantly easy.
3. Do horseback riders use this trail? No! Only hikers are allowed on this trail. No equestrians, mountain bikes or motorized vehicles are allowed. Boats are NOT allowed in the lake as well.
4. Any additional tips for the Lake Loop? Try to stay on the trail at all times to avoid hazardous conditions. Poison ivy and venomous snakes are present on this trail. Bring plenty of water and snack when visiting this trail. There are no trash services on this trail so please pack out what you pack in.

The Des Plaines River (/dɪsˈpleɪnz/) is a river that flows southward for 133 miles (214 km)[1] through southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois[2] in the United States Midwest, eventually meeting the Kankakee River west of Channahon to form the Illinois River, a tributary of the Mississippi River.
Native Americans used the river as transportation route and portage. When French explorers and missionaries arrived in the 1600s, in what was then the Illinois Country of New France, they named the waterway La Rivière des Plaines (River of the Plane Tree) as they felt that trees on the river resembled the European plane tree. The local Native Americans showed these early European explorers how to traverse waterways of the Des Plaines watershed to travel from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River and its valley.

Goose Lake Prairie State Natural Area
Goose Lake Prairie was sculpted by glaciers. The flat landscape with its clay-based soils was formed as the last vast sheets of ice melted more than 14,000 years ago. The area became part of a continuous grassland that stretched from Indiana to the Rockies.
Located in Grundy County, Goose Lake Prairie is approximately 50 miles southwest of Chicago and 1 mile southwest of the confluence of the Kankakee and Des Plaines Rivers. More than half of Goose Lake Prairie is a dedicated nature preserve, protected by law for future generations from any change to the natural environment.

Millennium Park is a public park located in the Loop community area of Chicago in Illinois operated by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and managed by MB Real Estate. The park was originally intended to celebrate the third millennium and is a prominent civic center near the city's Lake Michigan shoreline that covers a 24.5-acre (99,000 m2) section of northwestern Grant Park. The area was previously occupied by parkland, Illinois Central's rail yards, and parking lots. The park, which is bounded by Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, Columbus Drive and East Monroe Drive, features a variety of public art. As of 2009, Millennium Park trailed only Navy Pier as a Chicago tourist attraction and by 2017 it had become the number one tourist attraction in the Midwestern United States. In 2015, the park became the location of the city's annual Christmas tree lighting.
Planning of the park began in October 1997. Construction began in October 1998, and Millennium Park was opened in a ceremony on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule. The three-day opening celebrations were attended by some 300,000 people and included an inaugural concert by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus. The park has received awards for its accessibility and green design. Millennium Park has free admission, and features the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain, the Lurie Garden, and various other attractions. The park is connected by the BP Pedestrian Bridge and the Nichols Bridgeway to other parts of Grant Park. Because the park sits atop a parking garage and the commuter rail Millennium Station, it is considered the world's largest rooftop garden.
Some observers consider Millennium Park the city's most important project since the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. It far exceeded its originally proposed budget of $150 million. The final cost of $475 million was borne by Chicago taxpayers and private donors. The city paid $270 million; private donors paid the rest, and assumed roughly half of the financial responsibility for the cost overruns. The construction delays and cost overruns were attributed to poor planning, many design changes, and cronyism. Many critics have praised the completed park.
In 2017, Millennium Park was the top tourist destination in Chicago and the Midwest, and placed among the top ten in the United States with 25 million annual visitors.
