Siwa A Paradise in the western desert #thisisegypt
Siwa is Egypt’s hidden paradise.
About Siwa:
Siwa is known to have been settled since at least the 10th millennium BC, the earliest evidence of connection with ancient Egypt.
Its fame also lies primarily in its ancient role as the home to an oracle of Ammon, the ruins of which are a popular tourist attraction which gave the oasis its ancient name Ammonium.

Egyptian Oasis of Siwa (The lost paradise)
#VisitEgypt #AshrafEzzat #Siwa
On the edge of the Great Sand Sea, is the most isolated oasis of Egypt.
“Siwa”… The lost paradise.
The Egyptian oasis of Siwa is the stuff of desert daydreams. A place so far away from urbanized world and its dirty politics, far away from its dirty environment & pollution and its dirty make-believe life. So far away, once there you are suddenly dragged back to some medieval time. Brimmed with abundance, endless gardens of palm trees and olive trees, natural crystal-clear water springs and salt lakes, Siwa could very well be one of the lost paradises on earth.
This short video tells the story of a three-day-trip to Siwa in November 2019. The short film is directed by Ashraf Ezzat. If you liked it, make sure to share the video and subscribe to Ashraf Ezzat’s channel.

Egypt- Sahara A Salt Story from the beautiful oasis Siwa - The spice of their life...
This is a video with beautiful photos of salt extraction from the Siwa salt lakes. It's a breathtaking landscape of deep blue and white salt lakes surrounded by golden dunes and big limestone mountains situated in a huge saline depression in the desert. The salt has been used for hundreds of years for building Siwan houses with kerchief (mix from sand, salt and clay). The salt today still is used as building material for traditional houses (and some eco hotels), as well as for furniture, for creation of salt lamps, for spicing and food conservation and for wellness treatments in floating tanks. The pictures here show the salt extraction for the floating tanks and wellness, they are not about the salt mining. This will be another story. It is also exported to Italy and elsewhere in big blocks. The oasis of Siwa is surrounded by three huge salt lakes, that are supplied with freshwater from underground springs. These springs supply water that is believed to have been underground for 30,000 to 50,000 years. The lakes and the marshland around them are also well known as bird watching paradises. If you love Egypt, read more on This was former the web address egyptdelights as it is still written in the video, but the domain has changed. I am the owner of this film!
Walking inside the Oracle Temple at Siwa Oasis , Egypt
Fascinating to be in the same space and rooms where Alexander the Great walked to meet the Priests of Amun and ask them a couple of questions: a) whether he was the son of Zeus b) whether he will conquer the known World. Whatever were the answers (which Alexander the Great never disclosed) , he did in deed conquered the known World !!!

Siwa, An Egyptian Oasis
Siwa is one of Egypt's most isolated towns. Siwa is near the Qattara depression which is 436 feet below sea level. A large lake bubbles up from the ground but the water becomes salty because of evaporation. Fresh water is pumped from wells to irrigate date palms, olive trees and vegetables gardens. History here goes back to the 10thmillenium BC. Siwa was visited by Alexander the Great and Cleopatra. What makes Siwa unique are the deteriorating mud-brick buildings and the local Berbers. Ruth and I hired a taxi for 4 days to drive the 1,000 mile round trip. We considered taking a bus, but were glad we didn't when we were visiting with a Bedouin out in the desert and the bus came by. It broke down twice, and took about an hour to recede from our view. Siwa was well worth the trip. We were the only tourists in town and the only guests at the hotel. The hotel price included breakfast, but since we were the only guests ,the cook did not show up. Each morning the manager picked us up in a donkey cart and took us to a near by restaurant and ought us breakfast. This is one trip Ruth and I will never forget.

The Small Town of Siwa Oasis, Egypt
The little town of Siwa has more date palms than people. Over 300,000 date palms with a population of 23,000. Siwa was once the most inaccessible of Egypt's oasis and was crucial to trade caravans who crossed from the Nile Valley in the East to Libya in the West.
The town is more than easy to explore since it only spreads for approximately two blocks in all directions. However, there are hotels, restaurants and shops. The donkey carts coming and going (the main transport in Siwa) are comically fun to watch and my highlight in the town itself.
