Places to see in ( Garmisch Partenkirchen - Germany ) Ludwigstrasse
Places to see in ( Garmisch Partenkirchen - Germany ) Ludwigstrasse
The Ludwigstraße in Partenkirchen is a street in the historic district in the Upper Bavarian market Garmisch-Partenkirchen . The eastern part of Ludwigstraße is an ensemble based on the Denkmalschutzgesetz of October 1, 1973. The Ludwigstraße runs from the Rathausplatz in the northeast to Sebastianskircherl and then kinks at right angles to the southeast with the historic Ludwigstraße to the Mittenwalder road.
The ensemble comprises the relatively narrow market street of Partenkirchen, which runs along the old highway from Murnau to Mittenwald and follows the course of the Roman road from Brenner to Augsburg . The place already gained importance in the 13th century as a market and court of the freising county Werdenfels . Its picturesque Alt- Werdenfelser street scene was extinguished by great fires in 1811 and 1865, only the Old House (Ludwigstraße 8) and the Wackerlehaus (Ludwigstraße 47) are still evidence of the older buildings. The ensemble is thus a monument to the reconstruction of the 19th century.
In the northwestern so-called lower market, which is bounded by the freestanding Sebastian chapel, which rises above the Roman castrum Parthanum, a series of relatively similar farmhouses built after 1811 determines the streetscape. It concerns massive plastered gabled buildings with gable-sided Mittertenne, which for fire protection reasons on frets and z. T. even on roof overhangs do without in favor of masonry advance gables.
The facades of mostly built after 1865, originally in the sense of Maximilian style quite sober farmhouses and inns in the middle of the Ludwigstraße and in the so-called Upper Market, mainly two- to three-storey plastered gabled houses with medium-sized roofs, since the early 20. Century mostly in the sense of the home style has been designed by murals, oriels, jibs, stucco, so that the street scene of the Maximilian era is already repressed by an alpine image, as it expects the tourism. The murals by Heinrich Bickel made notable contributions. However, poorly designed new buildings also affect this character, which is characterized by its home-style. Unchanged only manifests the neo-Gothic, towering on a terrace and dominating the street parish church of the Assumption by Matthias Berger the style of the period after 1865.

Places to see in ( Garmisch Partenkirchen - Germany )
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a German ski resort in Bavaria, formed when 2 towns united in 1935. It's a prominent destination for skiing and ice skating as well as hiking. The town lies near the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak, with a 2,962m summit accessed by cogwheel train and cable car. Garmisch is considered the more fashionable section, while Partenkirchen's cobblestone streets retain a traditional Bavarian feel.
The double-barrelled resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is blessed with a fabled setting just a snowball’s throw from the Alps and is a top hang-out for outdoorsy types, skiing fans and day-trippers from Munich. To say you ‘wintered in Garmisch’ still has an aristocratic ring, and the area offers some of the best skiing in the land, including runs on Germany’s highest peak, the Zugspitze (2964m).
The towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen were merged for the 1936 Winter Olympics and, to this day, host international skiing events. Each retains its own distinct character: Garmisch has a more 21st-century feel, while Partenkirchen has retained its old-world Alpine village vibe.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen was founded by uniting the two towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen by a decree of Adolf Hitler to bring the 1936 Winter Olympics to Germany. The International Olympic Committee was going to pass over Germany as the host, because there were not enough hotel rooms in the host town, so Hitler forced the unification of Garmisch and Partenkirchen to create a larger town, which would be more appealing to the IOC. Currently, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is home to a large US military base.
