Porterville is a city in the San Joaquin Valley, in Tulare County, California, United States.
From 1854 Peter Goodhue operated a stopping place on the Stockton - Los Angeles Road on the bank of the Tule River until the river changed its course in 1862. It was also the site of the Tule River Stage Station for the Butterfield Overland Mail, from 1858 to 1861. R. Porter Putnam, bought out Goodhue in 1860, turning the station into a popular stopping place and hotel called Porter Station. The town of Porterville was founded there in 1864

A United Nations Security Council session held in Lake Success, New York during the Cold War. Representatives of different nations are seated. US Ambassador to the UN Warren Austin and Britain's representative to the UN Alexander Cadogan seated next to each other. Warren Austin states that te Soviet Union has turned good people of Czechoslovakia into slaves. He says that democracy has now become the top security in Czechoslovakia and freedom of holding and acquiring property has been destroyed. He further states that the Security Council should consider the charges laid upon the Soviet Union which are charges of indirect aggression in Czechoslovakia. Location: Lake Success New York. Sopwith Pup N54T (formerly). Built in 1961 by Joe Pfeifer for retired UAL Capt Walter Addems.
Now registered as ZK-SPH in the Chariots of Fire Fighter Collection, Blenheim, New Zealand. Addems was an aviation pioneer from Atherton whose pilot's license was signed by Orville Wright (United States Pilot's License No. 101). Mr. Addems was a member of the exclusive Early Birds, made up of pilots who flew solo before Dec. 17, 1917, the 13th anniversary of the Wright Brothers' first flight.

HCPT(TIMES)040401-4/4/62-RIVERSIDE,CALIF; Air Force Major James S. Appleby revs up the motor of his home-made replica of World War I Fokker E-3 before his first flight here 4/3. Appleby, 37, took off, circled for eight minutes, landed sadely, and took of again. He and his wife have been working on the craft since last July, using original plans. The plane features a rotary engine.

200 Calif Homes Destroyed Near Lake Isabella
(27 Jun 2016) A California wildfire that killed two people and destroyed 200 homes in the southern Sierra Nevada burned away from neighborhoods Monday, clearing the way for some residents to return to homes that survived the savage flames.
The fire grew to more than 70 square miles, but was it 40 percent contained as it burned in steep terrain south of Lake Isabella.
Houses could be vulnerable if winds blow the fire back toward some of the communities in the popular recreation area, Fire Chief Brian Marshall said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire began Thursday and quickly exploded in dry brush and bore down on small communities of houses and mobile homes that surround Lake Isabella, a dammed section of the scenic Kern River popular for fishing, whitewater rafting and other outdoor activities.
