Beryl being offloaded at Mpulungu, Zambia
My wife Jenny and myself spent more than 6 months travelling up as far as Ethiopia from Johannesburg. One of the many highlights of the trip was a 48 hour trip on the MV Liemba from Kigoma, Tanzania to Mpulungu, Zambia on Lake Tanganyka. This lake is 650km long (world's longest) and an average of 50km wide. It contains 20% on the non-frozen fresh water in the world. Beryl is the name of our 1998 Landcruiser Prado. The vessel was shipped out in pieces from Hamburg Germany and launched at Kigoma in 1913.
