Te Anau and Milford Sound | Day Trip | New Zealand (HD)
Te Anau is a town on the South Island of New Zealand (172 KM from Queenstown). It’s known as a gateway to Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. Te Anau Caves feature a limestone grotto of Glowworms and an underground waterfall (Real Journeys run 1 hour tour to Glow-warm cave).
Milford Sound is an inlet (sound) in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island (285 KM from Queenstown and 118 KM from Te Anau). The drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound is very beautiful. Eglington Valley, Mirror Lake, The Divide, Monkey Creek, Homer Tunnel are few of the attractions on the way to Milford Sound. Beautiful mountain ranges with glacier at the peak are both side of the road.
The beauty of Milford Sound doesn’t have any word. This is my little afford to showcase the trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound via Te Anau.
Video resolution is 1080P.

30 Tips for Backpacking in New Zealand ➜
-- About this video --
This is it, we are finally leaving Queenstown and heading for the Southland region. Our first stop and base for the next few days is Te Anau – the gateway to the Fiordland National Park.
When we arrive in Te Anau, we check in at the Real Journeys office and board our cruise to the Te Anau Glow Worm Caves. There, we board the boat and cruise out to the western shores of Lake Te Anau and the Te Anau Caves. The Te Anau Glowworm Caves are one of the best things to do in Te Anau.
Inside the Real Journeys building at the caves, we get a quick presentation on the lifecycle of the glowworms before heading in small groups into the caves.
A walkway leads through the Te Anau Glowworm Caves to waterfalls, trout pools and close-up encounters with glow worms. Then we reach a small boat for an opportunity to float right underneath a whole ceiling of glowworms. Right here is one of the best places to see glow worms in New Zealand.
After seeing the New Zealand glowworms, we make our way back out of the caves and into the forest of the Fiordland National Park where we learn more about the bird native species.
So what do you think of the Glowworms in Te Anau? Would you see the Te Anau Glowworms in New Zealand? LUK in the comments!

Lake Te Anau New Zealand February 6th 2014
Lake Te Anau, New Zealand
The main body of the lake runs north-south, and is 65 km in length. Three large fiords form arms to the lake on its western flank: North Fiord, Middle Fiord and South Fiord. These are the only inland Fiords that New Zealand has, the other 14 are out on the coast. Several small islands lie in the entrance to Middle Fiord, which forks partway along its length into northwest and southwest arms. The lake lies at an altitude of 210 m, and since its maximum depth is 417 m[2] much of its bed lies below sea level.
Several rivers feed the lake, of which the most important is the Eglinton River, which joins the lake from the east, opposite the entrance to North Fiord. The outflow is the Waiau River, which flows south for several kilometres into Lake Manapouri. The town of Te Anau lies at the south-eastern corner of the lake, close to the outflow.

Visiting Te Anau | Four things to do in Te Anau, Fiordland
Located in Fiordland on New Zealand's South Island, Te Anau is a wee town that's well worth a visit. Not only is it easier driving distance from Milford Sound than Queenstown, but it also boasts plenty of attractions in its own right. These include the local bird sanctuary, the Kepler Track, nearby Lake Manapouri, and Lake Te Anau itself.
