Visiting Isla Del Sol and Copacabana on Lake Titicaca, Bolivia Travel Video Transcript:
Good morning! Good morning everyone. It's bright and early today. We're here at Copacabana and this is the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca. We are going to an island called Isla del Sol which is the island of the sun. And we almost didn't think we'd be able to go today. We woke up and there is thunder and lightening. There was all kinds of rain. It was pouring. It was pouring outside but it has really cleared up now and we're excited to see if we can take the trip today. So the island is somewhere off in the distance over there.
So we have just arrived in Isla del Sol and the sun came out just in time. Now we're going to go visit some ruins and then we're planning to hike from the north end of the island to the south end.
The first thing that struck us about Isla del Sol were the landscapes. We had to climb some pretty steep inclines to reach the top of the island but once we did we got some incredible views of our surroundings. We also enjoyed making friends with lots of animals along the way including sleepy pigs basking in the sunshine and a mix of horses and donkeys.
While we enjoyed our day trip to Isla del Sol we did feel our visit was a bit rushed. We managed to walk the length of the island but we only made it back on the boat with 10 minutes to spare. Crossing the island takes a lot longer than tour operators let on so if you really want to visit and you don't mind a remote setting you may want to consider spending a night or two on Isla del Sol.
So hello from Copacabana. Hello! We're not in the famed beach from Rio de Janeiro this is actually a small little town on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca and we've been spending the past 5 days here. Yeah. Just relaxing, getting some rest and we actually left the vlogging until the very last day. I know, unfortunately it is a rainy day. Today is very overcast. What can you do. We're going to go out there and you show you the town anyway. Yep.
Right here is the main drag of town. You're going to find your restaurants, bars and live entertainment. And lots of hippies.
If there is one meal that you absolutely must try when you visit Copacabana and that is rainbow trout fished straight out of Lake Titicaca over there.
So you could choose an ordinary restaurant to have trout but where are we instead? Yeah, we're along the boardwalk and there are a gazillion restaurants literally lined along here. There actually not even restaurants. They are more like little stands. Yeah, exactly. Just like what you're seeing here. Tarp walls. And honestly we don't know where to go we just walked by a whole bunch of them and decided okay let's pick the last one why don't we go there. Yeah.
So this is the first bite. So what is this called locally? Trucha. Trucha. Trucha. We'll see.
So we just finished our meal. Now it is time to go paddle boat riding because we're all about cheesy adventure activities. Maybe we can get one that looks like a swan or a duck. It'll be fun. Yeah, let's do it.
So like we mentioned at the start of our vlog we haven't really been doing a whole lot in Copacabana. We've just been resting and relaxing and the highlight has actually been our accommodations. We're staying at a pretty cool place called Las Olas where they have like these weird cottages some of them look like tree houses, some of them are like little spirals and they have domes and I don't know. It just looks like this fantasy land so we're going to take you up and show you our cottage.
So here we are just swaying on the hammocks. Yep. What are your final impressions of Copacabana since we're leaving tomorrow? Well, Copacabana was everything we wanted it to be basically. We had been hiking in Machu Picchu, you know hiking the Inca Trail and then we really had a busy hiking tour while we were visiting Lake Titicaca on the Peruvian side. So we just wanted to come to a place that was really chill, that had a kind of a relaxed vibe and that was affordable. And Copacabana checked off all three of those boxes.
This is part of our Travel in Bolivia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Bolivian culture, Bolivian arts, Bolivian foods, Bolivian religion, Bolivian cuisine and Bolivian people.

On this video, we explore Lake Titicaca both in Bolivia and Peru.
On the Bolivia border, we stayed in Copacabana for one night and took a day boat trip to Isla de Sol. In the evening, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset from Cerro Calvario in Copacabana.
The following morning we crossed the border to Peru. From Puno, we set off to Uros Floating Islands where we experienced staying with a local family for 2 nights. We explored the fascinating totora islands, went fishing, tried on their traditional clothing and more!

Titicaca Copacabana, Bolivia-Peru 4K
Lake Titicaca is a large, deep lake in the Andes on the border of Bolivia and Peru, often called the highest navigable lake in the world. By volume of water and by surface area, it is the largest lake in South America. Lake Maracaibo has a larger surface area, but it is a tidal bay, not a lake.
Lake Titicaca has a surface elevation of 3,812 metres (12,507 ft). The highest navigable lake claim is generally considered to refer to commercial craft. Numerous smaller bodies of water around the world are at higher elevations. For many years the largest vessel afloat on the lake was the 2,200-ton, 79-metre (259 ft) SS Ollanta. Today the largest vessel is most likely the similarly sized train barge/float Manco Capac, operated by PeruRail.
Objem vody dosahuje 893 km³.

Exploring Lake Titicaca with Bolivia Hop | Copacabana, Bolivia
Today started off with a long journey from La Paz to Copacabana. This town is on the shores of Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian side. We jumped on a small ferry and travelled to Isla Del Sol, which the ancient Incans used to worship the sun gods. It was a quiet, small little island. After this we were so excited because we left Bolivia and officially entered Peru!

Arriving into Bolivia, my first destination was on the largest lake in South America, Lake Titicaca, and the cool town of Copacabana, Bolivia.
After arriving and settling into my room overlooking Lago Titicaca I strolled along the lake and into the town of Copacabana. Obviously, Copacabana the word is more famous for Copacabana in Brazil and this town of Copacabana in Bolivia could not be farther from the glitz and glam of its namesake on the other side of South America.
Bolivia's version of Copcabana is a dusty town with just a few roads and very, very thin air! The city of La Paz, the most famous city in Bolivia, is actually at a lower altitude than here in Copacabana and boy do you feel it.
Enjoy the visuals as I stroll through Copacabana and visit the incredible Titicaca Lake and make sure to subscribe for more videos from Bolivia to come as well as the other countries in South America I visit afterwards.

Right on Titicaca Lake, the town of Copacabana also has a large hill overlooking the town and lake. While it may not seem like a big hike or walk up the hill, with the altitude and lack of oxygen, it is a struggle. Copacabana in Bolivia is actually at a slightly higher altitude than that of La Paz.
When you climb the hill, the view over Titicaca Lake is simply stunning. Keep breathing deep and you will turn another corner to get a view over the corner of the lake, and the beach side of Copacabana town Bolivia, a marvellous sight.
First day in Copacabana Bolivia and the view over Lake Titicaca:
At the top of the hill, there is a row of crosses and an area to pray with the sun beaming off the surface of Titicaca Lake. To your left, the town of Copacabana sprawls across the waters edge. A beautiful sight and a great way to get the blood pumping, low oxygen or otherwise.

Protests at Copacabana, Bolivia Border Closed | Bus Ride from Cusco, Peru to La Paz, Bolivia
Hi Guys,
In this video we take a bus from Cusco, Peru to Puno, Peru to the Bolivia border. Unfortunately over the past few month's the Copacabana Border has been having protests and on several occasions they have closed the border. There have been many protests in Peru and Bolivia and many roads, businesses have been closed. It's not a very good time to visit South America as from our experience we have run into protests in every country we have visited so far.
After doing research we quickly learned this has been an ongoing problem and isn't likely going away anytime soon. Luckily for us, the protest's we have witnessed haven't been violent; However they have caused massive disruptions in our travel plans and have cost us thousands of dollars in rescheduling hotels and flights that we're non-refundable.
The bus rude from Cusco to Puno took about 8-9 hours and was an. overnight bus. We didn't get much sleep, the seats only recline slightly and the road was extremely bumpy. We arrived in Puno at around 5AM and waited in the hotel loby for hours until a room became ready. We stayed overnight in Puno, Peru for one night. During the day in Puno we visited the floating islands on Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca, straddling the border between Peru and Bolivia in the Andes Mountains, is one of South America's largest lakes and the world’s highest navigable body of water. Said to be the birthplace of the Incas, it’s home to numerous ruins. Its waters are famously still and brightly reflective. Around it is Titicaca National Reserve, sheltering rare aquatic wildlife such as giant frogs.
The next day we boarded the Bolivia Hop bus and began our trip to Copacabana. When we we're 10 minutes from the border, they had announced that the border was closed. We only had one option, to drive backwards for a couple hours and try to enter Bolivia from another border. Everyone's hotel in Copacabana was already booked and we all lost lot's of money from this. When we arrived at the alternative border, we had many problems. A stop at the border should have take 1 hour, turned into a 6 hour ordeal and there we're no good restaurants or anything it was just a small town with a few convenient stores and dirt roads with garbage everywhere.

Lake Titicaca - Bolivia
The town of Copacabana on the shores of Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian side has 5,000 inhabitants and a 3000-year old history and is a place of religious ceremonies. A popular destination is the 20 kilometers away island Isla del Sol in Lake Titicaca.
Near Copacabana there is a rock that resembles a frog. The inhabitants believe that this brings luck. That’s why here a variety of religious ceremonies take place. A long queue of people is waiting to break filled glass bottles on this rock.

Isla del Sol - Lake Titicaca - Copacabana - Bolivia
The landscape ob the island is stunning. It's worth to spent a whole day here and sleep two nights on the island. With the typical day trip by boat you'll see only a fraction of the island.
But make sure to arrive early at the Copa Cabana (the original Copa Cabana, not the one from Brasilia). The boats stop their service quite early, so take the early bus from Puno or La Paz.
