IL 15 DI FEBBRAIO HO VAGATO DA SOLO TUTTO IL GIORNO SUL ED ATTORNO AL SITO ARCHEOLOGICO DI SILLUSTANI, ANTICO LUOGO CERIMONIALE DELLA CULTURA AYMARA. DOPO AVER VISITATO LE SPLENDIDE CHULLPAS DI CUTIMBO, HO INTERROGATO A LUNGO GLI ANZIANI DI VARIE LOCALITA' SULLA STORIA E CULTURA DEI PUKARAS, KOLLAS, LUPAKAS, TIWANAKU,
AYMARAS E SULLE CHULLPAS.

Lake Titicaca, Puno & Sillustani (Peru)
Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world at an altitude of 3,827 metres (12,500 feet). We took a ride in a reed boat to the floating islands before visiting Puno quayside, where the steam ship Ollanta is moored. Sadly, the train ferry to Guaqui in Bolivia no longer operates.
From there we head to Sillustani, with its circular burial towers that overlook Lake Umayo.

Sillustani Archeological Complex - Puno Attractions
On a narrow, windswept peninsula on the shores of Lake Umayo, lie the remains of #Chullpas, huge, circular funerary towers.
This is #Sillustani, a short drive from the city of #Puno on #LakeTiticaca.
The pre-Inca necropolis was built between 1200 and 1450 by the Kolla Culture.
The ancient inhabitants, the Hatuncolla, interred their nobles, chieftains and high priests in the funerary towers.
The tallest of the towers reaches a height of 12 meters, and features a bas relief carving of a lizard on one of its highest stones. The back of the tower has fallen away, revealing a mound of earth protected by an inverted cone of close fitting building blocks. Older structures have a simpler form, but the plateau provides stunning views of the high lakes and ridges of Peru's southern highlands.

Juan Nunez del Prado explains about Sillustani, pre-Incan burial ground, Lake Umayo, Puno, Peru
Here, we are at Sillustani, a pre-Incan burial ground on the shores of Lake Umayo not far from Puno in Peru. The tombs, the tower-like structures, are called chullpas and are tombs for the nobility of the Colla people, Aymara who later (15th century) were included in the Inka empire. The burial ground was in use for several centuries and the tomb design therefore went through several different stages as evidenced by the differences in the structures. Except for the entrance area the whole burial site is surrounded by Lake Umayo, a most beautiful lake.
Attached in the comments section is actually a reference to a journal article from 1905 that describes the ruins and have some interesting photographs included as well.
We started the tour of the site with Juan Nunez del Prado telling us more about the background of it and the people who inhabited the area, with focus on their agricultural practices, as it was a most important aspect for their survival in an otherwise quite hostile environment as far as agriculture/crops are concerned.
