Klagenfurt, the provincial capital of Carinthia in Austria, is located on the east shore of the alpine lake Wörthersee.
According to legend, the city was founded at the place where brave men killed a winged dragon which lived in the moors next to the lake. A majestic sculpture, cast in one piece, adorns the Lindwurm-fountain in the city center which became the new emblem of the city. A skull of a glacial wool rhino, found in the Zollfeld plain, was the template for the head. In reality, the city was founded by the Carinthian Duke Herrmann from the Rhine-Frankish family of Spanheimer, to secure the transport routes.
After earthquake and a plague of locusts, the city was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1514. As Emperor Maximilian I. had no money for reconstruction, he donated the city to the country's estates, until then a unique process. Thereupon the city experienced a real prosperity. At that time, the Landhaus was built, now the seat of the State Assembly. In the great hall of arms, decorated with more than 650 coat of arms of the nobility estates, the donation is shown on one of the paintings. On the opposite wall, you see the enthronement of the Carinthian Duke at the Prince's Stone in Karnburg. Karnburg was the center of the Slavic empire Carantania. At the foot of the painting you see the Prince's
Stone, the oldest monument of medieval law in Carinthian history.
The ceiling fresco shows the hereditary homage of emperor Karl VI. In 1728.
The cathedral is regarded to be the most important Protestant church building in the German-speaking room although it is Roman Catholic since 1604.
At the Old Square, you see the Portrait of a bakers' boy who was wrongly executed for stealing. A saga says that after his innocence was proven, the name of the city of Klagenfurt derived from this event.

Situated within the Klagenfurt Basin, its shores are flanked to the north and south by the foothills of the Gurktal Alps and the Karawanks range, all covered with dense forests beyond which snow-capped Alpine peaks are visible. The lake's water is of a distinctive blue-green colour and transparent.
Lake Wörth and its basin in the central Carinthian foothills were largely formed by glaciers during the last ice age. The lake is divided into three basins by several islands and peninsulas. The western basin stretches from Velden to Pörtschach, the central basin from Pörtschach to Maria Wörth and the eastern basin from Maria Wörth to Klagenfurt. Numerous brooks flow into the lake; its sole distributary is the artificial Glanfurt creek in the east, eventually flowing into the Drava (Drau) river via the Glan and Gurk tributaries.
The northern shore is densely built up with the main resort towns of Krumpendorf, Pörtschach, and Velden. The Süd Autobahn motorway and a railway mainline occupy the narrow space between the steep hills and the shore. The southern shore is quieter and less developed.
In winter the lake sometimes freezes.
The water surface (epilimnion) can reach up to 25 °C in summer. In winter, the region is often covered by snow and approximately every 10 years the lake freezes over, attracting numerous ice skaters. Lake Wörth's fauna is dominated by fish typically found in alpine lakes. The most common species are the pike (Esox lucius) and the common whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus).

Austria: Lake Wörth
Wörthersee is a lake in the southern Austrian state of Carinthia. The popular bathing lake is a main tourist destination in summer.
Wörthersee is Carinthia's largest lake. It is elongated, about 16.5 km (10.3 mi) long and 1.5 km (0.93 mi) wide, and stretches from the outskirts of the Carinthian capital Klagenfurt in the east to the bay of Velden in the west.

Lake Wörth's fauna is dominated by fish typically found in alpine lakes. The most common species are the pike (Esox lucius) and the common whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus).
In the early 19th century the marshy shores were home only to a handful of poor peasants. The opening of the Austrian Southern Railway line (Südbahn) to Klagenfurt in 1863, later extended to Villach along the northern shore, quickly turned the Wörthersee into an exclusive summer retreat for Vienna's nobility and wealthy bourgeoisie. Especially Velden and Pörtschach developed to main tourist resorts.
Up to today, the Mediterranean climate and the clean, warm waters make Lake Wörth a popular tourist destination in summer. Although the region around the lake has been termed Austria's Monte Carlo, in recent decades tourism around Lake Wörthersee has suffered from tough competition from package holidays to cheaper overseas destinations. As a response a number of local businesses have tried to focus on niches such as high quality tourism, family tourism or golf and horse-riding vacations.
Most tourists visit the Lake in the months of July and August when water temperatures reach 25 °C. A large proportion of visitors return every summer and some own or rent holiday homes along the shore. The vast majority of visitors come from Vienna, northern Germany and the Netherlands. The largest Volkswagen and Audi car show in Europe, the Wörthersee GTi-Treffen (in English, Wörthersee Meeting or simply Wörthersee), has been held in the lakeside town of Reifnitz (usually in May) every year since 1981.

CARINZIA - Klagenfurt am Wörthersee - Velden [HD]
© By CLAUDIO MORTINI °°°

I left Bard Stein and headed to Klagenfurt, southern Austria. Klagenfurt has a legend related to birth. There is a dragon on the lake in this area, and the lord of the lord who gives the land of the lake to the person who killed this dragon kills the dragon and kills the dragon, and the city he built here is Klagenfurt. Lake of the Boerte that the dragon lived. This lake is famous for its beautiful scenery that is legendary and where Europe's upper class stay in a villa. To feel the beauty of Lake Boere, you need to find an observation deck on a mountain near the lake. Pyramid Den Cogel named 'Pyramid Peaks'. Pyramid Cogel is the world's tallest wooden tower with a height of 100 meters. Since it was built in 1950, it has been rebuilt several times, There is a nickname of a wooden ladder leading to the sky. As we climb up, many people are busy taking pictures of this place. Did he release the blue paint? The lake of Lake Boere is very beautiful. Musicians like Brahms and Mahler found this place and made a work in a landscape that looked like a watercolor. It's very spacious and I like nice views and nice views. I really like it. It actually feels dizzy. I feel a little sick, but it's okay. It is nice to see here and it is better to be here. Imagine the music of the lake and drop it down for a while.
