Egypt- Sahara A Salt Story from the beautiful oasis Siwa - The spice of their life...
This is a video with beautiful photos of salt extraction from the Siwa salt lakes. It's a breathtaking landscape of deep blue and white salt lakes surrounded by golden dunes and big limestone mountains situated in a huge saline depression in the desert. The salt has been used for hundreds of years for building Siwan houses with kerchief (mix from sand, salt and clay). The salt today still is used as building material for traditional houses (and some eco hotels), as well as for furniture, for creation of salt lamps, for spicing and food conservation and for wellness treatments in floating tanks. The pictures here show the salt extraction for the floating tanks and wellness, they are not about the salt mining. This will be another story. It is also exported to Italy and elsewhere in big blocks. The oasis of Siwa is surrounded by three huge salt lakes, that are supplied with freshwater from underground springs. These springs supply water that is believed to have been underground for 30,000 to 50,000 years. The lakes and the marshland around them are also well known as bird watching paradises. Walking inside the Oracle Temple at Siwa Oasis , Egypt
Fascinating to be in the same space and rooms where Alexander the Great walked to meet the Priests of Amun and ask them a couple of questions: a) whether he was the son of Zeus b) whether he will conquer the known World. Whatever were the answers (which Alexander the Great never disclosed) , he did in deed conquered the known World !!!

The Siwa Oasis: A Culture Built on Salt
This short documentary offers a glimpse of the stunning landscapes of the Siwa Oasis through one of its lesser known resources. The salt harvested from the lakes has traditionally been used not only for preserving and cooking food, but for construction as well.

Reversible Reactions
062 - Reversible Reactions
In this video Paul Andersen describes how reversible reactions achieve equilibrium as reactants are converted to products and products are converted to reactants. A model shows how forward reaction rates and reverse reactions rates approach equality at equilibrium. Physical, chemical, biological, and ecological examples of reversible reactions are included.
