Beautiful Driving to Lake on the Mountain from Picton Prince Edward County Ontario Canada 4K
Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park is a Provincial park located in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. The park has an area of 104 hectares. Other than a viewing platform, parking area, and an illustrated sign explaining the physical structure of the eponymous lake, there are no facilities in the park.
The freshwater lake around which the park is based is located nearly 62 metres (203 ft) above the Bay of Quinte from which it is separated by a narrow strip of land ending in a cliff. Often thought to have no visible source of water, it is actually fed by at least two small streams from the surrounding higher land, predominantly from the west but another enters near the southeast corner. The southeast supply is more of a seasonal spring runoff and by summer is sometimes completely dry. There is also a significant area of swamp to the southwest which would act as a reservoir for water that would eventually flow into the lake. Drainage of the lake occurs on the east side where a small stream flows down the cliff into Lake Ontario's Bay of Quinte. It is believed to be a collapsed doline (a type of sinkhole). It was believed to be bottomless by early settlers. The depth of the lake is still not fully known, although previous attempts have established the depth over 34 metres (112 ft) deep.
Picton is an unincorporated community located in Prince Edward County in South Eastern Ontario, Canada, roughly 160 km east of Toronto.[1] It is the County's largest community and former seat. Picton is located at the south-western end of Picton Bay, a branch of the Bay of Quinte, which is along the northern shoreline of Lake Ontario.[2] The town is named for Lieutenant General Sir Thomas Picton, who served in the British army during the Peninsular War in Spain and Portugal. He also saw action at the Battle of Waterloo, where he was killed.

Lake on the Mountain & Glenora Ferry, Canada, Ontario
Apart from a boring journey on Ontario 401 East Highway, take a break through the visit of the small city of Picton at Prince Edward County. There is a lot of history in this neighborhood, with lots of references to Loyalist such as the road itself or some of the stores on the roadside. During the visit to this small city, there are two places near the city - Lake on the Mountain - a very soothing and relaxing area and Glenora Ferry.
Lake-on-the-Mountain is situated 60 meters above Lake Ontario with a constant flow of Clean & Fresh Water. It's also a great picnic spot if you are exploring Prince Edward County. Anglers can try for Large and Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and sunfish at Lake on the Mountain.
Glenora Ferry is free, scenic and open year-round -the views are spectacular regardless of the time of year. It's worth taking the time even if not on your direct route. It connects two cities - Picton, Prince Edward County, and Adolphustown, Greater Napanee.

Dining on a Lake on a Mountain
Gorgeous scenery, peaceful surroundings, Loyalist architecture, mouth-watering food, delicious home-made beer it can all be found at the Lake on the Mountain Resort and it's corresponding restaurant 'The Inn.'
Lake on the Mountain is located in Prince Edward County in Southern Ontario at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. It is a geographic oddity, a deep lake with no source of water that's 200 feet above the nearby Bay of Quinte and is one of only two plateau lakes of its kind in the whole world. The panoramic view from Lake on the Mountain back down over Lake Ontario is stunning. Visitors have been coming here for years to relax and unwind, and enjoy the spectacular view.
The GCAT took the fun, local Glenora Ferry across a section of Lake Ontario before climbing up in our Chrysler van Tripp'er to reach the Lake on the Mountain Resort. It's a gorgeous old building dating back to 1860. It used to be a general store which the country's esteemed former Prime Minister Sir John A. MacDonald used to shop at. It's a quaint stone building of Loyalist architecture (the region is second only to Williamsburg for its cache of wonderful Loyalist architecture) and is easy to spot because they have their old 1918 Ford truck parked out front. The truck still runs and they use it to deliver barrels of beer (which they brew themselves on site) to the town nearby.
The beers are made from local barley and hops instead of imports. Whether it's the cream ale, English ale, traditional IPA, or oatmeal stout, you are drinking a truly local brew. We couldn't help ourselves but have a sample of the homemade tipple under the sun on their comfortable patio beside the lake.
A Mecca for artists, nature lovers and anyone looking for a getaway or for a weekend break the area is a great spot for sailing, fishing, live theatre, artists' studios and galleries, unique regional cuisine and is also a flourishing wine region; with 26 wineries now operating in the region.
The sun was warm, there was a cool breeze off the lake and the beers went down easy. After an hour on the patio it was excruciatingly hard for us to drag ourselves back to our van and get back on the road. One thing we all agreed on before we left was that someday we'd be back.
See you there!

Lake On The Mountain, Prince Edward County, Ontario
Lake on the Mountain is exactly what the name would suggest, except it's not really on a mountain, more of a hill. Probably not as spectacular as Lake Titicaca, but I can drive there quicker. It will have to do for me.
